Full-time recreational-vehicle residents will be allowed to vote in the November presidential election, thanks to an agreement reached between the Tennessee chapter of the ACLU and Bradley County Election Commission.
Ron and Leone Teel and Tom Layton, who live full-time in their recreational vehicles, were among over 250 full-time RVers who were purged from Tennessee voting rolls in 2006 based on a change in Tennessee law which prohibited people from using a commercial address to register to vote.
“We are delighted that this novel issue was resolved in time for our clients to vote in this historic election,” Tricia Herzfeld, ACLU-TN staff attorney, who represented the RVers, said in a statement.
In November 2007, the ACLU-TN filed a lawsuit in federal court, arguing that the 2006 law violated RVers equal protection and due process rights.
The court dismissed the case but acknowledged alternative ways for the Teels and Mr. Layton to restore their right to vote while maintaining their right to travel, the statement said.
After discussions with ACLU-TN, the Bradley County Election Commission agreed that the National Voter Registration Act allows the Teels and Mr. Layton to use the address of the parking lot of a mail forwarding service to register to vote.

You’re dead wrong. Full-time RV’ers today are moderate to upper income demographics and normally very conservative. When you’re spending a half to one million plus dollars for an RV plus fuel, plus camp fees that’s one demographic you don’t want to miss.

My parents were full-time RV’rs and they were DEMOCRATS. Most campgrounds that accept full-timers do not allow them to stay more than 2 weeks at a time so as to allow more campers access to the facility. I would hope that you would have to be a “resident” of a town at least 30 days to qualify to vote. My parents had a home that they rented out while on the road. That is their permanent address.
An RV can be rented for the purpose of voting in my county...

Its a curious nomad kind of lifestyle that these RV’ers have taken to. They may have tags of Michigan on their RV...but spend less than thirty days a year in the state. Throughout the south....there are tens of thousands of RV’ers....either parked or on the road. I don’t think the present voting system ever saw this type of event occurring.
I know of some guys who buy their RV in one state (with no sales taxes), register in another (for low tag costs), and keep their 401K/IRA funds in a third state. Based on my experience of getting a drivers license in a state, where I don’t even pay state taxes...you can tell that the entire system is open to personal abuse or misuse.

Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner has a reputation as the most partisan state official in Ohio. And she works hard to earn it. The Democrat’s latest stunt rejected absentee ballots for thousands of Republicans.
But it’s not her first rodeo. Almost as soon as Brunner was elected in 2006, she tried to remove several Republican county elections officials, including Ohio Republican Party Chairman Robert Bennett. They accused her of “storm trooper tactics” to silence critics.
Then Brunner spread an alarm that Ohio’s electronic voting machines were vulnerable to tampering - a favorite claim of the paranoid left. Elections officials who participated in Brunner’s study called her conclusions over-hyped “leaps in logic” and said, “The report itself could be viewed as an attack on the elections system ... (that) planted seeds in the mind of the public to mistrust those who oversee elections.”
Brunner also demanded an overhaul of voting methods just before the March primaries, causing meltdowns in some precincts
Wrong Cleveland...
Our Bradley County is the most Republican county in Tennessee...

The REAL motor voter?
My wife and I are some of those indirectly affected by this, although we do not have TN residency.
At the beginning of this year my wife and I retired early, bought a 40ft diesel coach and hit the road.
Although we still own our house in Houston, we transferred our residency to South Dakota for financial and legal reasons. Our ‘home’ address is now a mail forwarding company in Madison, SD. We will vote absentee.
We are presently in Skagway, Alaska after spending 5 months in Fairbanks. We plan on traveling acrosss the northern US, down thru the southeast and then back to Houston right before Thanksgiving. After the first of the year we will head back out again.
Just because we worked hard and were “lucky enough to win life’s lottery” to allow us to live this way is no reason to deny us the right to vote.
It is estimated that over 1 millon people travel and live fulltime in their RV’s, and from what I have seen, most of them are conservative.
I have about $200,000 in our coach and the truck we tow behind it.
I don’t think you’re going to have a lot of illegal immigrants coming over the border, buying big RV’s, and traveling around the country, voting illegally.
Hurry up and get your other RV friends registered to vote in VA, OH, or PA. We need their votes.
We will vote absentee.
