Martin Peretz, the editor-in-chief of The New Republic, didn't make many friends with the hard core left which nowadays makes up a large part of Democrat activists with his latest article: "Red Dusk: The Rosenberg bombshell." It is about how many in the American left, despite the evidence that Julius and Ethel Rosenburg were indeed Soviet spies, still can't accept their guilt just as they can't accept the culpability of communists and communism in general (emphasis mine):
In America and in other Western societies, however, there still remain coteries of intellectuals and other high-minded people who have trouble absorbing the simplest historic truths, truths which ordinary workers in highly ideological Labour England, say, have had absolutely no difficulties absorbing. Even more so among unionized workers in the United States. The blindness of these meta-minds does not quite absolve Stalin of his crimes--but it willfully looks away from those of Castro or Che, who still hold a special place in the hearts of people calling themselves progressives.
And which group continues to idolize Che Guevara? Perhaps a look at the Che Guevara flag on the wall of a certain presidential candidate could provide the answer. However, let us return to Peretz who seems to have his "progressive" blinders down on the subject of communism and the left:

NEW REPUBLIC ? MENTAL CLARITY ?
You’re kiddin’ me.
PING!
Call it brief moment of mental clarity. Check the entire article as to why there is only a half-cheer for this editor.
Just as they change their name from Communist to Socialist to Liberal to Progressive, they also change their heroes. It means nothing, it's just a shellgame to fool the rubes.
Example: Stalin, well, we fully recognize that HE was bad, and, you know, we've come to realize that Castro and Che were also not so hot. Now, what the world really needs is more people like ... say ... Hugo Chavez -- now THERE's a man the Left can be proud of!
Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
A slight aside, but a large number of people-- particularly American Lefts, I suspect don't realize that the deification of Lenin did not blossom until after the death of Stalin. Stalin was such an obviously monster that Khrushchev et companie realized they had to somehow salvage the prestige of the USSR. So they did this by using the old "good cop-bad cop" routine, and laid it on with a trowel. Lenin was the Alexander Nevsky. Stalin was Vlad the Impaler. It is a myth that by now has sunk very deep, and very convenient, roots.
Besides the author was and probably still is an Al Gore devotee. I guess he doesn’t think of Armmand Hammer, the Godfather of the Gore political and money source, as a real true communist. I guess he also doesn’t see the marxists fingerprints all over the “global warming” charade. You know, the watermellon econuts, green on the outside, red in the inside.
The Left in this country has been at war with “them” for their entire adult lives. “Them” being the American people who are content to live their lives, do not see America as a disaster needing total repair, and who do not see the wisdom and moral authority of the Left.
Marxism has been “dead” for almost two decades, but it still informs the mental processes of the Left, including one of our Presidential candidates.
