Everybody has an opinion on the outcome of the presidential race, and most partisans say their side will win. But for those folks, talk is cheap. Pollsters are different. Identifying trends that actually affect the outcomes of elections is a skill, and, as in any business, your track record counts.

I know, I have lost count on both
only if mccain campaings the best. The debates matter, the ads matter, msm matters, 527’s matter.
Time will tell.
Place your bets on intrade.
The one line in this article you can't argue with!
I want to follow this up with some additional evidence supporting this thread. Here is a biased poll from Public Policy Polling. Its a pathetic piece of work. You can see how it pushes respondents to believe that they have been crushed by an economic catastrophe and they ought to blame McCain and the republicans. But notice these things:
1. Even with this kind of push polling— results are 49 to 45 for Obama.
2. This is the bigger positive for our side
Party ID at the end of the survey: 43 D 37R 20% other
Gallup and others are running their polls with 49 D 38 R. If at the end of a strong economy tanking push poll you get just a six point gap on repub dem, then the Dems are not winning any of the polls being put out today.
If republicans are within 6 on ID, then Obama has lost. Something big has to happen in the Debates to bring Obama back. The polls are being cooked to make it close, but I think there are good external indications that the campaigns know what is really happening.
Even electorally, states are not moving to Obama and they are certainly not staying in his camp.
Here is the poll:

“I am not sure which gets posted more these days on FR: GOP pollster Kellyanne Conway predicting McCain victory or the PBS poll asking about Governor Palin being qualified to be VP.”
HMMMMM...That’s interesting as the date on this article is September 23rd and this is the first time I have seen this or ever saw it on FR....oh well, guess we cannot get enough good info to keep us energized. That’s how I look at it.
Kellyanne is definitely innocent!
Stinging.Good on ya Kellyanne.
well, I certainly hope that she is right. Not only for the country’s sake, but I have a bet for a fifth of Hennesy with a black co-worker that McCain will win, and I will certainly enjoy drinking that with my dinner on November 5.
Besides, I’ve been predicting “landslide” since Obama Hillary semi-withdrew. america is ready for a black, but not this one.
A few days ago, I felt comfortable it was trending to McCain. This financial catastrophe, however, could could blow up and change things either way.
Awwwww, the snivelers can’t snivel on 2 threads out of 2000 sniveling threads a day?
Good grief.
Neither, it's the "Joe Biden will drop out Oct.5th and be replaced by Hillary".
Oh yeah, I forgot about that one.
The initial “panic” just caused a slight movement to Obama but it is almost a virtual tie if you consider LV to RV in polling today. With debates coming Friday and the topic on security this should definitely be a slam dunk on McCains side and couldn't come at a better time. Either way, from this article the voters desires fit more toward McCain in the long run and if Obama was going to take off and secure the EV...he has had many opportunities...but the voters have held back. These debates will be a bigger deal than normally would...especially the one with Palin. She will rock.... and we are rolling!
like Rush said this morning. The Clintons will make sure Obama loses.
