McDowell deputies join hunt
*snip*
At about 9:40 p.m. Friday, a Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher sent Deputy Adam Klutz and Lt. Chris Martin to check on a 911 hang-up call that had come from a residence on Fox Winkler Road, said Fore.
Klutz was shot in the head as he arrived at the home. He died at a hospital Saturday morning.
When Martin arrived in a second vehicle, he was shot three times in the chest. His Kevlar vest stopped the bullets. He was treated for minor injures at a hospital and released.
The 24-year-old had worked for the department for 18 months but had been on patrol for only six of those. He was unmarried and lived with his parents in Granite Falls, said Fore.
Brinkley’s weapon was described as an assault-type rifle.
After shooting the officers Friday night, Brinkley fled into the woods surrounding his home.
Fore added that Brinkley is not a known troublemaker. Since the shooting, authorities have learned that Brinkley served in Iraq, has some Army Ranger training and was once a law enforcement officer.
According to Army records, Brinkley, who was born Larry Wayne Brucke Jr., served three years at Fort Campbell, Ky., from 1996 to 1999. As a member of the Army National Guard, he deployed to Iraq from May 2006 to April 2007.
He also worked at the Seneca Police Department in Seneca, S.C. from August 2001 to October 2002. Officials there, citing confidentiality laws, would not say whether he was fired or quit.
The suspect is 5-feet, 8-inches tall and has a medium build, green eyes, blonde hair and a goatee. He was last seen wearing a Carhartt T-shirt, a Farm Bureau hat and brown work pants.
He is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

No biggie. The two states can be strikingly different from one another in many ways, but I guess it takes a native to know that. Charlotte gets put in South Carolina by the MSM all the time, so I’m used to it. But, at least Charlotte is on the SC border, lol. Caldwell County is in the high country, closer to Virginia.
;) .. no more posting for me tonight.

The area in question is couple of miles SW of LaNowhere, I mean Lenoir. Foothills area about 15 miles north of Hickory.
SE, not SW.
