Wow - talk about last minute.
7 witnesses recanted?
For a moment, I thought it was about this scum, Richard Henyard.

Carjacked a woman, shot her and raped her, and then when her TWO LITTLE GIRLS IN THE CAR CRIED FOR THEIR MOTHER, THIS BASTARD SHOT AND KILLED THEM! The Mother survived her wounds and testified against him.
He is scheduled to die at 6pm EDST today.
Just let me know when they fry Mumia Abu Jamal.
As far as this guy, I think a stay is appropriate if there is any doubt.
Dishonesty by prosecutors is why I oppose the death penalty in most cases; and I was once a very strong suporter of the death penalty at one time. Recantation by seven of nine witnesses is a pretty strong indication that something was amiss in the trial.
This guy has had more hearings and appeals than I have freckles. The witnesses changed to “I don’t recall” stories after 10+ years and lots of pressure from Amnesty Intl, ACLU etc. 18 years later, he gets another week to once again plead for clemency. He shot an off-duty police officer (who was in uniform working security) while the Officer was helping a homeless man who the thugs had just beaten. After the officer went down, Troy Anthony Davis stood over him and shot him point blank in the face. Don’t believe anything you read from AJC - they’re an extension of the ACLU in GA.
Could you briefly explain the nature of the evidence that led to his conviction?
In general, what was the physical evidence and how much was based on eye witnesses? I had not heard of this case before.
...works for me!
Not saying this guy is innocent, but you can’t trust prosecutors and judges. Here is just one example:

When William Sessions raises concerns, I must come down on the side that there was something amiss in the trial. There was no physical evidence in this case and I would never sentence someone to death on the basis of only eye witnesses.
Unfotunately the only stuff you can find in the media is being put out by Amnesty Intl and ACLU but I followed this case from day one - living in Savh and knowing some of the family. There was no doubt from the testimony at trial and 18 years of appeals and hearings have yet to change anything. The “new” testimony has been presented to the Pardons and Parole Board & the State Supremes yet the sentence was upheld. I’ve blogged on this case a good bit but here is the post with the links to transcripts and other facts.
