sorry, but I don't get it, how would a attack sway U.S. citizens to vote anyway but Republican? maybe the annoited one would speak w/ who ever we found out was behind such a thing, oh ya, that's it!! That would make us vote for obamaranna(sarc)

You have to think like they do. They swayed the elections in Spain with the bombing there a few years ago. They believe they can do the same thing here.

Exactly. A terrorist attack would enrage Americans and focus everyone’s attention on national security and foreign policy. The end result would be a McCain landslide.

I completely agree. I think this would be a dumb move for the terrorists.
On the other hand, the attacks in Spain (July 7, I forget what year) came just before the Spanish elections and were a factor in bringing peace-loving socialists into power and minimizing Spain's role in our current conflict.
But the US is not Spain.

McCain would have the nuclear option on the table if the damage was bad enough.

Visualize a series of small bombs set off in front of suburban polls in predominantly Republican areas, creating an environment where people are afraid to go vote.

Hey, Biden wanted to give Iran $200 million for taking American hostages. Maybe Al-Qaeda thinks that Biden, as VP would give them $500 million for blowing up Americans...

This is why liberals always say the terrorists actually like the Republicans and want them to win. Liberal conventional wisdom (such as it is) is that an aggressive US offense gives terrorists their raison d'être.
You can't talk them out of this ludicrous belief, either. No matter how many facts and history lessons you give, they are convinced that all Islamic angst is caused by the US.
Apparently the fact that Islam has been around in the exact same form, for more than a thousand years before the US even existed, is irrelevant.

I stand corrected...but off course some of our partisan bretheren may be infected by a stealth malady known as the Bradley affect whereby they grow a temporary spine just in time for the election but for all the wrong reasons.........

While I agree with you that an attack would help the Republicans, you presuppose that the terrorists adequately understand the American psyche.
The terrorists have two successful examples of affecting western elections, Spain and Italy. They are two for two.
If you view that as a successful track record, what do they have to lose?

The question is: Is “October Surprise” afraid?
To: peace with honor
Depends on it’s location of the attack on how it will change the election.
