Breaking News: Pelosi 'No Energy' Bill Part of House Draft CR
Human Events ^ | 09/22/2008 | Jed Babbin

House Democrats are bypassing renewal of the offshore oil drilling ban by including the entire Pelosi “drill nothing” energy bill in a draft of a Continuing Resolution. HUMAN EVENTS obtained a copy of the most recent House draft CR this morning.

The Pelosi bill, HR 6899, fails to open more than a miniscule part of the available offshore drilling areas and -- even worse -- it establishes permanent bans on development of most other domestic energy sources (natural gas, oil shale, etc.) and does nothing to develop nuclear power. It passed the House earlier this month and is now languishing in the Senate as a separate measure.

As one member of Congress said last week, it’s got more incentives for bicycle riding than for nuclear power. Continued

Forgive me, but does every %$^@ing bill pass through the House nowadays? I mean, it just seems like no one stops these stupid bills from going through? What’s the point of even having a House if things just shoot through like diarhea!!

Bush has threatened to veto the bill if it gets to his desk. But if he effects a pocket veto, then the September 30 deadline would expire, would it not? The way I see it, then drilling could go forward.

Any other thoughts on this exploration of thought?

In the meantime, they’re probably loading the bill with porkies/earmarks.

That’s right. If nothing becomes law to stop oil drilling, come Sept. 30, the federal gov’t is out of the way, and our oil and gas industry can drill for known reserves and explore in any part of the continental shelf where one of the several states has not imposed a ban.

That’s the point of the article: as seems to be reflex, when the time comes to do nothing, the demonRATs always want to do something. They’re attaching to bogus ‘you can drill only where the water is deep and we don’t know there’s any oil’ ‘energy bill’ to a Continuing Resolution, that is a budget measure to keep the government open without adjusting funding levels.

They want to make it impossible for Bush to pocket veto what is effectively
an extension of the ban dressed up pretty to deceive the sheeple.

Screw the Democrats. They will wind up raising your energy costs.

There is very little difference between House democritters and Al-Qaeda as to who poses the greatest danger to our country.

I think it is time for McCain to start using, in his campaign ads, the phrase “Barack Obama AND the Democrats.”

Particularly on the energy issue. The under-performing congressional democrats have alienated so many Americans with their political handling of the drilling issue that tying Obama to them and them to Obama may create the political synergy we need to do some real damage politically.

Pelosi and Reid are not sympathetic figures. Their words and deeds, skillfully packaged, can be a significant detriment to the Dems in upcoming election if the republicans will get on the stick and just do it.

Maybe a 527 can do it.

“Barack Obama and the elitist democrats would rather you pay $4 and $5 a gallon for gas than take a chance that their idyllic view from their Malibu mansions might be spoiled by drilling for the oil our economy desperately needs for job and national security. Out of touch. Politics as usual.”

The words may vary but that needs to be the core of the message on energy, and it needs to be hammered again and again and again. I think this is one of the two or three main issues that can produce real traction for McCain if he will just use it and stop wasting his time trying to be Mr. Non-partisan.

The reaction by middle America to Sarah Palin shows just how ravenous the electorate is for a candidate who is authentically one of us and understands our needs and dreams and what middle America wants its government to be and do. The same sort of hunger awaits a candidate who will frame an issue in a way that Americans can identify with.

The energy issue as framed above is, I believe, a bread and butter issue that is viscerally potent with the electorate.

flim flam Nan strikes again. Are the people actually this gullible that her do nothing plan will be allowed to proceed without serious consequences on Nov. 4? I have not seen a poll regarding this and would be interested to see if the sheeple have swollowed it yet. I have not herd much opposition from Republican Reps lately. This is clearly a serious con by her and the D.Rats and needs to be exposed as such. McCain / Palin this energy flim flam is teed up for you, do not wait to long to hit this out of the park in both ads and stump speaches.
