After hiatus, McCain vows immigration plan again [amnesty for "God's children"]

Speaking to an Irish-American audience this morning, John McCain used his strongest language of the general election campaign to grab again the mantle of comprehensive immigration reform.

In Scranton, Pa., he vowed to push through a plan that offers a path to citizenship to illegal immigrants who pay fines and fulfill other requirements. "This nation is stronger for the infusion of fresh blood and vitality," McCain said.

I don't think you understand. Without protected, secured borders, American will fail to remain a sovereign country.

Millions pouring into our borders during wartime no less is national suicide. No country can exist in this environment.

This violent invasion of millions is already undermining and compromising *every* single aspect of our system. Including our very electoral process.

I am not endorsing Obama however, I am not so delusional that I believe that VP Palin will ignore the dictates of the President by casting votes in the Senate that are contrary to the President’s policies not do I think VP Palin will visit Heads of State and commit America to policies without McCain’s approval.

While it remains to be seen if he actually follows up on that promise, no one can argue that Immigration NEEDS reform. Personally, I think they just need to make it easier and less hostile to legal immigrants, McCain has some other ideas.

I suppose the $50,000 question is what is meant by the requirement that the borders be "secure". If the borders are declared to be secure the moment there's a 3-foot picket fence along half their length, then agreeing to grant amnesty under such conditions would be all but treasonous (it would beet the common definition, but not the Constitutional one). On the other hand, if the borders would only be declared secure if it could be demonstrated that fifty years had elapsed without a single person entering illegally, then an agreement to grant amnesty under such unobtainable circumstances would be a way of playing 'Lucy football' with the Democrats.

Please name one VP in modern history that has ignored a Presidential Directive and cast a tie Breaking Vote in the Senate that was Contrary to the Wishes of the President.

Or do you actually believe that under a McCain Administration we would have an Executive Branch with the President and VP working on two contrary agendas?

That may be true to the casual observer, but Sarah Palin is not the type to let the president run roughshod over conservatives. I think, I hope, she will be our voice in Washington. The Oval Office may get a little heated from time to time. (and not in the way half of FR is thinking)

Look... I went to Washington on a plane to make my opinions heard by my two senators and weasel of a congresscritter. I also know that our borders have not been secure since teddy-bare kennedy shoved the first Amnesty down our throats, on to when Reagan shoved a load right behind it and through to this very day. Our Nation is suffering but we have remained Sovereign through it all. Until we have a true Conservative in the seat of President and until that person can communicate and connect with the American people to educate them on what truly needs to be done... nothing will change... nothing.

Palin is Conservative... she has stated that she wants secure borders and legal immigration... but illegal means illegal. She is very bright and communicates over the press directly to the America people. Yesterday in Florida, she had 60,000 seniors standing in 90 degree heat to listen to her... in a venue setup up for 20,000. It seems to me that you are the one that is in the “not understanding” mode. She is our future hope... emphasis on "future".

I like Hunter. As a former San Diego resident, I was very aware of his positions. He simply didn't have the national mind share to get traction.

Where did that map originate? The estimates look really low. I'm in CT and in Danbury alone the mayor estimates about 35,000 illegals.

Add in the self-declared sanctuary city of New Haven along with Bridgeport and Hartford and the number would be well over 300,000. I haven't a clue what the total really is but it certainly is not fewer that 85,000. Do they just pull these numbers out of a hat?

I'm pretty certain Governor Palin did not sign on with John McCain so that she could become a doormat. Given that it's pretty clear that she's more popular than he is, I would expect they both realize that--were she so inclined--she could severely hurt John McCain politically. Of course, neither she nor McCain would want things to come to that, but that doesn't mean there aren't any circumstances where she might need to make a credible threat.

While previous VPs have not made such threats, at least not in recent times, that's largely because previous VPs have not been anywhere near as popular as their running mates. Palin's popularity caries with it an unprecedented level of political clout for a VP.

Back in the days when the President and VP were of differing parties, I would expect it probably happened a fair amount. As for more modern times, can you name me any VP that was more popular than the running mate?

If Dan Quayle had publicly denounced GHWB for doing certain things, do you think anyone would have cared? Dan Quayle was regarded as a nobody. He was supposed to be a doormat, and it seems that he was.

By contrast, Sarah Palin is a major presence in this campaign, and has made clear that she has no intention of being a doormat. If McCain had wanted a doormat, he could have nominated one. Since he did not, he should not expect his VP to act like one.

We will see. McCain will win this election and the Democrats will hold the Senate. Within the first six months of the McCain Presidency a Stem Cell Research Bill will go to the Floor of the Senate.

When it is time to Vote the Senate Democrats will manipulate their votes so that their is a tie forcing the VP to cast the tie breaking vote in favor of Embryonic Stem Cell Research just as John McCain favors.

She might be, but as others have pointed out, unfortunately she will not be president, regardless of who is elected.

Another fact is that after being dog bit multiple times, by nearly every single politician at every level in this country...Well my confidence in government and the politicians, is all but non-existent.

If this were Duncan Hunter or a real conservative and Palin, I'd be excited. But it's not. To be honest, I feel McCain went with Palin in the hopes of bumping his numbers and him into office.
