OAKLAND -- A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent opened fire today on an armed man who grabbed her purse in Oakland's Chinatown, police said.
The off-duty agent was walking near Ninth and Franklin streets in downtown Oakland when she was accosted shortly after 6 a.m. A man with a gun demanded her purse, but the agent pulled out her own weapon and opened fire, police said.

Cop: You mean a purse?
Jerry: Yes, a purse. I carry a purse!
Here's hoping she killed the perp. A few more of those and the thugs in Oakland will settle down. Or, better yet, move across the Bay to San Francisco, which is a nuclear-free and gun-free zone. Meaning, clearly, citizens are safer in SF.
Shoot first and ask questions later. That use to be the norm......we need to go back to that idea. Save the tax payers a lot of money. Of course the lawyers wouldn’t like it.
The Justice Department will probably seek to prosecute the ICE agent.

Rather misleading headline. Purse snatchers grab and run. This guy confronted the agent using a gun and demanded her purse. That makes him a robber, not a purse snatcher. I wonder if the headline was intended to garner sympathy for the perp? Or disdain for ICE?
This guy was an armed robber pointing a gun at a woman and demanding her purse, not a “purse snatcher”. Here’s hoping he got two in the heart and one in the head.

The ICE agent will now be prosecuted both in Federal and civil court for use of excessive force in defending her life.
The purse snatcher will get written up in the New York Times as a hero ‘trying to make ends meet in a poor economy’... just ‘doing those jobs that (most) Americans don’t want to do.’

Did she report the shots within an hour? Or rather, did she file an incident report within an hour? /sarc
I need to apologize to Ajnin. He now has one hour from the time he read my first post on the story to report the shooting or face the consequences of being involved in the coverup.
He might not have the information. She was ICE, and from what I can see of his profile, he’s CBP. We’re all under DHS, but CBP and ICE are different organizations. I work for ICE.

Thanks for your service. I was being sarcastic concerning people attempting to do their duty and getting "shafted" as a result.
The robber may have been shot as he fled with the purse, police said.

Technically he may be both but the headlines gives the mental picture of the ICE agent shooting down someone who is running away after surprise snatching a purse. It is a far cry different from shooting someone who is carrying a gun and threatened her with it.
