John McCains campaign manager Steve Schmidt lashed out at the media today, specifically the New York Times, on a conference call with the media.
Let's be clear and be honest with each other about something fundamental to this race, which is this is that whatever the New York Times once was, it is today not by any standard a journalistic organization. It is a pro-Obama advocacy organization that everyday attacks the McCain campaign, attacks Senator McCain, attacks Governor Palin, and excuses Senator Obama, Schmidt said.
This is an organization that is completely, totally, 150 percent in the tank for the Democratic candidate, which is their prerogative to be, but let's not be dishonest and call it something other than what it is. Everything that is read in the New York Times that attacks this campaign should be evaluated by the American people from that perspective, that it is an organization that has made a decision to cast aside its journalistic integrity and tradition to advocate for the defeat of one candidate in this case John McCain and advocate for the election of the other candidate, Barack Obama."

Easy does it, Steve. You can’t argue with idiots.
I agree with you though.
Amen to ‘that’:-)
Well said Mr. Schmidt, well said.
Wonder who reads that NY rag these days. Kind of irrellevant
Lets put the media/dims on defensive for a change. They are the lowest form of humanity.
Now the Slimes is really going to be gunning for McCain and Palin, though it’s hard to know how they can go any lower than they already have. But I have faith in them, that they’ll find a way.
Did I hear the NYT is begging congress and Hank for a bailout?
From the comments at the bottom of the article, my good guess is the New York Times isn’t the only place housing idiots.
“Wonder who reads that NY rag these days. Kind of irrellevant..”
Just the rest of the media, and they set their sails accordingly.
Schmidt's target audience wasn't the media.
Batten down the hatches, everyone...it’s a Schmidt Storm!!!!
Gray Lady down!!
The REAL casualty of this election is going to be the credibility of the American (and worldwide) Press, ESPECIALLY if Obama loses...
Thier are VERY few people that believe the media does unbiased journalism without an agenda any more.
I agree with Schmidt, but I come to a slightly different conclusion:
The New York Times is not a newspaper that supports the Democrats and their candidate, Barack Obama.
Instead the Democrats are the political arm of the New York Times. It is the Times that is supported by the Democrats not the Democrats that are supported by the Times.
Examine the newspaper coverage of the present campaign and you will realize that the Obama campaign is following, sometimes reluctantly, the talking points of the Times editorial page.
Why would Obama sling mud at Sarah Palin? Who cares much who she is or what she is, except for some academic cultural mavens? Why would Obama risk his whole political image as “above the fray” to mix it up with the vice-presidential candidate?
He is working for the New York Times and this is a big deal for them. He must do their bidding even though it risks his candidacy.
Now, of course, after all the publicity, the country cares very much about Sarah Palin. She and her positions are a rallying point for libertarians and family values conservatives across the country. The Obama campaign doesn’t want this. Obama tried to get the Times to back off. They just slapped him on the back and told him to get back to work.
If Obama loses this campaign, it will be a huge loss for the Times. If this campaign can disgust Democrats enough to refuse to carry water for crazy NY liberal academics, it will be a great day for freedom.
I know they even endorsed George McGovern in 1972 and Walter Mundane in 1984, and so surely one has to go back to the 1920s or even before, to find where the New York Times endorsed a Republican.
Now, a lot has changed in the world, in America, in the two major political parties, the past 100 years, and so it just seems really odd that the New York Times has always been so reliably pro-Democrat, no matter the candidate.
Schmidt is a smart man. He can do better by running against the media than he can against Obama.
It may just be enough to win...
...the only ones shocked at how little Americans think of the New York Times...are their friends in the media.
Republicans are way overdue in acknowledging the adversarial nature of their relationship with the MSM. I’m so sick of seeing them walk on egg shells to avoid offending them, as if it would lessen the damage their bias inflicts. The partisanship has gotten so bad, the Republicans risk nothing by spitting in their eye, and they may actually earn some respect in a little display of actual courage.
