Palingate? - Agents Swoop On A Tennessee College Dorm Linked To Palin Hacker's IP Address
Washington Post ^ | 9/22/08 | Mike Butcher

Hack into - and then publish - the email account of a major politician, especially one under Secret Service protection and currently running for Vice President, and you had better cover your tracks. Well. WBIR is among those reporting that FBI agents broke into a party at the Fort Sanders apartment of University of Tennessee student David Kernell early Sunday morning. A Department of Justice spokesperson confirmed there has been "investigatory activity" in Knoxville regarding the incident where Sarah Palin's Yahoo account was hacked and information published online.

The Pimply Perp soon will be wearing the garb that all well-dressed felons sport: handcuffs and orange.

I’d donate a week’s pay to the DNC if this incident could be directly linked to higher-ups in the Obama campaign.

It's clear that the "hack" was simply created by reseting Palin's password using her birthdate, ZIP code and information about where she met her spouse - all information freely available online.

I'm surprised that doesn't happen more often, actually. Most of the "security questions" websites set up for password resets have answers that could be found without too much trouble, especially with the internet. People should try to pick questions that can't possibly be a matter of public record - things like your favorite movie, or first crush.

As usual, the Washington ComPost brings the illustrious Mike Butcher up to the plate in a lame attempt to point the finger at Yahoo based on the security of their service so far as resetting passwords is concerned.

What is disturbing about this developing story is that thus far, there is NO indicator that federal agents seized any computers or storage media from the perp’s apartment. They reportedly ‘took pictures’, which is a good start but hey Feds? Pictures of computer systems don’t capture any images of the data residing INSIDE the damn computer!

The kid is going to basically walk on this, mark my words.

good point; I have always hated sites that had those ridiculously obscure questions since things like favorite movies etc. change.

But, it is better than “what is the town in which you were born?”

So who should be in court here? A college kid, or Yahoo's email security people?

Suppose I leave my door unlocked and someone walks in and takes my TV. Yes, I was foolish for leaving the door unlocked, but there was still a crime that was committed. The above statement from the article was a pathetic attempt by an Obama apologist to change the topic away from the criminal act of the e-mail thief.

Is this guy a total moron ? No matter how easy it is to get the info, the act of resetting an account that does not belong to you is wire fraud.

Knoxville is where drain for the liberal cesspool—stinking up an otherwise conservative Tennessee—settles. The fecal material rises in Memphis and drains in Knoxville.

this is what has me scratching my head: The kid is outed last week, and has to know that he is facing a felony charge. And he is hosting a party that weekend?

Don't kid yourself. This guy will get a lecture from the judge and two weeks of public service.
