Pakistan on Sunday blamed Al-Qaeda linked Taliban militants for the massive suicide truck bombing at the Marriott Hotel that killed at least 60 people and injured more than 260.
Dramatic footage of Saturday night's attack showed the carnage could have been far worse, but the attacker failed to get through a secondary barrier when he crashed his explosives-laden truck into the hotel's security gates.
The interior ministry said the truck was packed with 600 kilos (1,300 pounds) of explosives, and pointed a finger at Taliban militants allied with Al-Qaeda who are based in the remote areas along the border with Afghanistan.
"All roads lead to Fata," ministry official Rehman Mailk told a news conference, using the acronym for the rugged tribal areas that have become a safe-haven for militants despite an army campaign to root them out.
"It has the hallmarks of Al-Qaeda," a senior official involved in the investigation told AFP. "It was an Al-Qaeda style bombing."
Several security officials said at least 60 people were killed in the carnage . Malik put the number confirmed so far at 53 dead and 266 injured.
Rescuers were continuing to pick through the rubble of the hotel, which was all but destroyed in the massive blast -- heard for miles around -- and a subsequent fire that swept through the 300-room hotel.
Some bodies pulled from the debris were burnt beyond recognition.
Czech ambassador Ivo Zdarek, who was living at the hotel, was among the dead.

Well Pakistan, maybe you need to decide which side you’re on. This back and forth is just pissing both sides off.
Saved, will do some digging on these names.
Thanks, it’s just interesting that the name keeps popping up. There is also a Siddiqui that is an Obama supporter in Indonesia. The name seems to date to the first Caliph, Abu Bakr Siddiq. I think that another Siddiqui was responsible for pushing the fatwah against Salman Rushdie in England. This seems to be a very, very radical family.
Oh, and Jeff Siddiqui of Seattle is the one responsible for stopping that recent book about Mohammed’s wife from being published.
There’s someone on the county schoolboard where I live with the last name Siddiqui. Hmmm...
I think that it is a very large family. It is such an old powerful family, kind of like Hussein. I am just wondering if some of this is possibly related to what is going on in Pakistan, now.
No doubt and American Politicians especially Democrats will just not face the facts.
This Jeff Siddiqui of Seattle is an immigrant from Pakistan?
I’m not sure what his native country is, but he is the local head of CAIR and his real first name is something like Jafir. I’m not sure of the spelling. But the guy is a real activist.
A controversial Pakistani, Muslim immigrant who supports Barack Obama could be the first Muslilm to be a presidential elector.
Jeff Siddiqui, a Pakistani immigrant who lives in Lynnwood, 20 miles north of Seattle, is one of 11 people selected by the Democratic Party
I found this..... can’t vouch for the truth of the contents. May be true, may not be true. Need documentation I can believe in...)
It’s true, here’s a headline from the Seattle PI....Lynnwood man may become one of first Muslim presidential electors in U.S.
Native of Pakistan among those chosen by state Democratic Party
Sounds Muslim.
Can't be. Religion of Peace don't you know.
Must be a Methodist.
Thanks for confirming.
Jafar
June 14, 2005 update: When I spoke at the University of Washington in Seattle in April 2002, one Jafar Siddiqui (or Jeff Siddiqi) led a campaign by Islamists to get my talk cancelled. As Edward Alexander, the organizer of the event, tells it in “Radical Islam vs. Academic Freedom: One Example,” this led to some preposterous name-calling, threats of suits, and even one person getting expelled from a university building.

Yes, Jafar and Jeff Siddiqui are the same person.
The name just keeps popping up. Now, I have one more question is Aafia’s ex husband Mohammad Khan, related to AQ Khan, who sold the nuclear secrets. It has been said that her ex-husband had been located at the Khan family compound in Pakistan.
It will be interesting to see how far the new Pakistani government will go in trying to convince their constituency that closer cooperation with the US and NATO forces is a must for their over all well being. The goons are not going to let up as they are fully aware. They probably have a higher concentration of radical Islamist within their border regions then anywhere else on earth. They must start addressing the problem big time.
Nearly every night I watch Military History, often with footage of square mile after square mile of Berlin and Tokyo bombed and bombed.
And I wonder, why not bomb the lands of Taliban and Al Qaeda? Why do muslim civilians deserve better treatment than Germans and Japanese?
Not nearly enough dead enemies to convince me we take it seriously.
Al-Baluchi, the future husband of Brandeis PhD Aafia Siddiqui
Future husband?
Aafia had three children.
I’ll try to find more on the Khan husband.
Ah, the nuke man, AQ Khan. Research him later. My eyes need a rest. LOL
So far I found nothing connecting Aafia to Seattle Jafar.
Oh, one more thing....Jafar (Jeff ) came from Peshawar in Northern Pakistan went to College in Wa. I think he’s in his 50’s. He and his muslim friends caused disruption at Sea-Tac Airport.
