On last nights Saturday Night Live, there was an eight minute clip that focused on the NY Times coverage of Sarah Palin.
The skit addressed a fictional meeting where the Peter Conolly Assignment Editor of the NY Times explains his plans to send 50 reporters to Alaska, to dig dirt on the Palins.
The media may try to play this off as SNL bringing up the topic of incest in the Palin household. The real story is that SNL framed the NY Times and it's staff for precisely what kind of tactics they have used against the Palins so far. The management and the reporters for the times were skewered here, and it was amazingly over the top.
Folks, this was a great skit. You'll have to see it to believe it, and I have posted the 8:04 minute clip on YouTube for you to see.
Enjoy.
Thankfully, the "American mind" of today is not reflected adequately by the cartoonists, pundits, actors, and other assorted entertainment and political power seekers.
There remains to us an appeal to that same "Divine Providence" so acknowledged and revered by the Founders and so unrecognized by some today.
The Declaration acknowledged "that they (all men) are endowed by their Creator," governed by "the laws of Nature and of Nature's God," overseen by "Divine Providence," and accountable to a "Supreme Judge of the world."
That "endowed by their Creator" part is anathema to those whose greatest objection to Palin is that she demonstrates a profound belief in the right to life and liberty of every one of those "creations," even the "least among us."
FReepers were freaking out over this last night because of the crazy assertion these “journalists” came up with that the Palins were incestuous because “it is Alaska, right?” But you are right: this was a spoof MAINLY of the snobbish effete elite in New York City. I was giggling throughout when all the people kept opting to turn down the assignment, like when some journalists left the room when they heard there was no Thai takeout food there. And what about the guy who asked if, in Alaska, they had accomodations for a transsexual in the pre-surgery phase? I mean, that is just funny! SNL writers work in Rockefeller Center. THEY KNOW WHAT THESE PEOPLE ARE REALLY LIKE. And there are not people like them anywhere else in the country, except of course in my (and your!) fair City of the Angels.
Oh, and since this skit was funny, I will assume that Seth Meyers wrote it and NOT Al Franken, who wouldn’t know funny if he sat on it.
People are not reading newspapers....so the same orgs just push their poison online, all the networks and entertainment shows repeat and promote the same perception. That Conservatives are white trash-religious-rubes-stupid-racist-warmongers.
And it shows in polls and elections.
I think you’re right. It would be hard to make the case it could be anything else at this point.
Grow a sense of humor or you will end up unable to enjoy life. This skit poked fun BY FAR more at the NY elite than at the Palins or anyone.
See later
Does anyone have a link to the clip in question? Link provided goes to the OP’s page of many clips.
What you mean to say is there is no way to make Biden funnier than he already does.
But you would be wrong; check out the Search feature for threads that start with Caption Biden. Freepers are on top of this job. I laughed my mascara off just the other day here.
Looks like it was taken down.
Thanks for the link
And it SUCKED! The only funny thing about it was the one Charles Barkley line. The poor guy who was impersonating McCain was not used to any advantage, and didn't get any good lines. The comedy was sucked out of the room in that skit, even though the premise was good. Only Al Franken could take something good and make it horrible -- think about that, Minnesotans.
Try looking at some polls about what the public thinks of the media. Those figures are very low.
Your attitude seems to be that even if something good takes place on one of the MSM outlets, we should ignore it.
Does that mean you don’t approve of us contacting the MSM to complain about what they do, and try to get them to change.
And if they do something good shouldn’t we acknowledge it? That’s called positive reinforcement. You don’t believe in it?
Very very strange...
They removed the clip from YouTube.
You’re welcome, but YouTube took down the video clip.
This was a hilarious roast. You should be glad that SNL would put something like this on. Its a great step in the right direction.
All this skewering of the reporters came after the NY Times Assignment Editor describing them as the fifty top reporters in the nation.
Im telling you, this is eight minutes worth watching. You couldnt have done a better job on this skit if you had been given full editorial control.
Fellow Freepers, we have been wanting something to help us fight the Media, our MOST influential opponent in this election. SNL helped us last night more than any blabbering we do here preaching to the choir!! Seth Meyers and SNL need our accolades -- email them today to tell them how much you loved that skit.
Thank you Yaelle. I appreciate your voice on this SNL segment.
Shhhhhh. You just KNOW the Dems will now help a lovely young girl disappear to get Greta onto another topic... / tongue out of cheek
NBC, thy name is hypocrisy.
Yes, I saw the skit, and I get the joke. You are missing the bigger point.
“Democratic Party Candidate for the Minnesota Senate seat Al Frankin According to Politico.com, he authored the recent Palin Family Incest opening skit on NBCs Saturday Night Live.”
Here’s where you are incorrect. The opening skit was about McCain, and was written based on a rough outline provided by Ali Franken.
Either politico.com is off it’s hinges, or you misread the info.
