Sources: Intense Pressure Led To Palin UN Snub

CBS 2 HD Has Learned Democrats Threatened To Attack Jewish Groups' Tax Exempt Status Over VP Nominee Invite

Marcia Kramer NEW YORK (CBS) ― Hillary Clinton won't be speaking at Monday's anti-Iran rally at the United Nations -- and neither will Republican Sarah Palin or any other politicians for that matter.

The reason? A heated behind the scenes tug-of-war.

Sources tell CBS 2 HD that a decision to disinvite Palin from the high profile rally after Clinton pulled out in a huff came as the result of intense pressure from Democrats.

"This is insulting. This is embarrassing, especially to Gov. Palin, to me and I think it should be to every single New Yorker," Assemblyman Dov Hikind, D-Brooklyn, told CBS 2 HD.

Sources say the axes were out for Palin as soon as Sen. Clinton pulled out because she did not want to attend the same event as the Republican vice presidential candidate.

"I have never seen such raw emotion -- on both sides," said someone close to the situation.

The groups sponsoring the rally against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaking at the UN were reportedly told, "it could jeopardize their tax exempt status" if they had Palin and not Clinton or Democratic VP candidate Joe Biden on hand.

So all politicians were disinvited, most prominently, Palin.

"It's an absolute shame that this has happened," Hikind said. "To threaten organizations … to threaten the Conference of Presidents that if you don't withdraw the invitation to Gov. Palin we're going to look into your tax exempt status … that's McCarthyism."

Another Jewish group tried to step into the breach by inviting Palin to a different protest a day earlier.

"I'm absolutely appalled at the behavior of the Democrats," said Bob Kunst of Defenders.net. "I'm a Democrat and for the first time in my life I'm going to vote Republican. I can't take it anymore."

As for Sen. Clinton, she brushed right past CBS 2 HD's Lou Young when he tried to ask her about the issue on Thursday night.

Lou Young: "Were the organizers of Monday's rally right to depoliticize it?"

Clinton walked past Young, said "Thank you all very much" and started hugging people.

Clinton's people tell CBS 2 HD she intends to make some statement of support for the protestors. She is also expected to attack Ahmadinejad's pro-nuke, anti-Israel stance.

A group has planned another anti Iran rally and has invited Sarah to attend.

Sarah has cancelled a stop in CA to attend it.

On Thursday, Sept 25, at 6pm in Manhattan, The American Friends Service Committee, Mennonite Central Committee, Quaker UN Office, Religions for Peace, World Council of Churches-UN Liaison Office will be honoring Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at an Iftar (dinner to break the day’s Ramadan fast).

At the same time, The Jewish Action Alliance, Stand With Us, the Israel Project, Americans for a Safe Israel, The Center for Security Policy, the Catholic League, Rabbi Potasnik from NY Board of Rabbis, the Traditional Values Coalition, and the Alliance of Iranian Women will hold an interfaith counter-rally to protest Ahmadinejad’s presence at the United Nations, and to oppose his nuclear weapons program and his outrageous threats against America’s ally, Israel.

Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been invited to speak along with other politicians, Democrats and Republicans.

Please join us at the Hyatt Hotel, East 42nd St, near Lexington Ave and Grand Central Station, in Manhattan, at 5:30pm.

Send a message to the Mullahs in Iran!

For more information, or to bring your organization on board, call 212-726-1124

Rabbi Joe is a good man. I listen to his Sunday show all the time on wabc radio.

I recall when Fr. Paul Keenan died (his old co-host)he had a memorial service for him in his synagogue.

“While I believe everything is political to the Clintons, did she do this, fully anticipating this reaction from some Democrat voters, to hurt Obama because she thinks her best shot at the White House is against McCain in 2012?”

I think you are correct.

If it’s not in the MSM, why should anyone take the MSM seriously?

Why is this not in the MSM?

Because it doesn't forward their socialist agenda. That is always the answer if something noteworthy is not in the MSM.

They are partisan socialists. Accept it and act accordingly.

This is actually an outrage. Threatening people’s right to assemble through the IRS. It’s an unconstitutional outrage. No one should accept this criminal behavior from a supposed major political party.

No, this is American Economics 2001 where the dollar is more important than the principle. Heralded by the UN as an example for all the World to honor.

I agree. And most of the pressure came from Clintons. Hillary's hissy over Palin reveals how frantic she is. Imagine the uproar in the media if Palin had made these outrageous statements.

BTW, Clinton supporters still spreading rumors of Hillary becoming VP and replacing Biden.

I think it was great that the people folded under the threat of removing their tax exemption was whispered. Cowards will always be welcome in Socialist New America. I love these changes.

Our local CBS station in OKC is not afraid to speak the truth either. Every place we have lived the CBS affiliate has been the most independent of any of the alphabet networks.

Shame the national CBS group doesn’t follow the lead of their affiliates from around the Country.

The Clintons are political masters.

I’m sure she knew that not attending the conference would send the Dems in a tizzy. They know Obama is teetering on the Jewish vote. It’s killing him here in FL., they just don’t trust him. Lately he’s been losing NY jews big time. There have been several threads here about it.

So only AFTER Hillary Clinton said she was offended that she hadn't been informed of the list of invitees, that Gov. Palin was also invited to appear, she couldn't stand up to the comparison and so, pulled her hissy-fit indignant withdrawal, the groups were threatened with jeopardy? Hmmm ...

Indeed, ‘outrage’ is an understatement!

The aforementioned ‘Threatening people’s right to assemble’ is even of greater import, I believe, than the the protest against Ahmadinejad.

Americans should be in the streets protesting over this.

Someone should also ask the ‘Messiah’ what he thinks of such disgusting tactics by his beloved party?

Don't bet on it. I'm afraid that along with Tesachs disease, it seems that there's a genetic predisposition in Jews to carry BDS/PDS, as well as a leftward spiraling political bent.
