This would make for a perfect movie plot if the guy gets deployed, sees the light, and becomes a great soldier then wins medals, ect. I don’t expect it to happen, but it would make for a great story.

He doesn’t need to serve 4 years, he needs to be sentenced to 15 months in military prison and the force of the civilian legal system brought down on his accomplice, with restitution gained from them and a 6 month sentence for her.
