Tennessean: State Rep's son contacted in email probe.

NASHVILLE – The son of state Rep. Mike Kernell has been contacted by authorities in connection with a probe into the hacking of personal e-mail of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, Kernell told The Tennessean.

Kernell, a Memphis Democrat, said his 20-year-old son David had been contacted by authorities investigating the hacking of Palin’s personal e-mail account, the newspaper reported on its Web site this afternoon.

The FBI and the Secret Service started a formal investigation Wednesday into the hacking, according to the Associated Press.

David Kernell is a student at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

I got the info from the Michelle Malkin website. Apparently the sourced article at the Tennessean has been rewritten several times. I can't confirm he is in custody.

This was the lead story on Channel 5 News, out of Nashville, tonight. They interviewed his daddy, and he said his son had been contacted by the FBI and Secret Service but not arrested.
Keeping an eye on this as the investigation continues.

The linked article at the top of this tharead just says that the cops contacted Kernell, not that he is guilty of anything. However, the linked article below says that he admitted he is the perp.

Kernell claims in the message that the motivation for the attack was to see if rumours that Palin had used her personal email account for business, which is not allowed under US law, were true. He claims that after reading every email in the account that this was not the case. Kernell used a proxy to protect his identity when accessing the account, but the FBI began an investigation to find the perpetrator and had requested the proxy service to hand over its logs.

the only mob I have noticed is the one out to smear Palin at any cost.

I agree and I am sorry I implied anyone here was behaving like an Obama supporter...although a couple of people seemed out for blood.

I think this is a good opportunity to demonstrate to that 40% of people who barely pay attention before they vote that we are not like the people who want Bush tried for war crimes. The guilty party does need to be treated like any person suspected of this type of crime. I was just warning against calls for the perp's head. I think if we play this right it will end up helping us keep Obama out of the White House.
