It's not a great idea to run a government using Yahoo! e-mail accounts.
Gov. Sarah Palin's e-mail habit of using a private account to communicate with aides echos the worst practices of the Bush administration, says one expert.
That's the word from experts, anyway, reacting to news that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's Yahoo! e-mail had been hacked earlier this week. McCain's vice-presidential pick apparently used the accounts to communicate with key aides about government business.
The practice is dangerous, said experts, and can run counter to laws ensuring government is open and accountable -- a tough point for Palin, who has made "open government" a catchphrase of her political identity.
By using non-governmental email systems, "Your information is out there available, beyond the official mechanisms there to protect it," said Amit Yoran, the nation's first cybersecurity chief. Yoran is now CEO of Netwitness Corp., a computer security firm for government and private entities.
"When she's communicating about government programs, that information is not being protected with the typical precautions the government has put in place in its own risk management process," said Yoran.
Moreover, a hacked account could be used to falsify communications, noted Yoran a point proven by one of the hackers, who used Palin's account to send a message to one of her assistants.
Two Yahoo! email accounts belonging to Palin were hacked early Tuesday by a group calling itself 'Anonymous'. Screen shots of her inbox were posted online, as well as a screenshot showing an email of an apparently personal nature from a Palin appointee to the governor.

I’ve been saying this too....
WHY isn’t the McCain camp SCREAMING this....?????
~sigh~
For a few weeks, they were really on-fire with the whole rapid-response stuff—
I'd hate tho think one jump to a wrong conclusion would forever label me such on FR. Thanks for the compassion. I'm ABSOLUTELY not a liberal; I just know that everyone can make a mistake now and then, including, sometimes, about email issues.
The thing is, Obama claims he is above these sorts of tactics. Of course, he’s only opposed to them if they are used on him or if they don’t benefit him.
from your lips to the authorities ears...
Yes they were on fire. They were very efficient in getting ads out. I haven’t seen any new ads lately. There is one that goes after Obama, but it’s not that hard hitting and has been around for a while.
I know you're not a troll or a liberal. However, do you see how you were manipulated by the left to shift the issue from someone being victimized to blaming the victim? It's an analogy which immediately came to me watching Greta last night on Fox and her panel of lawyers. Gloria the b Aldrige moving the victmization to the canard and accusation of business over the Yahoo account. The analogy was to the rape victim - blaming her because she wore a short skirt or had too much make-up, or smiled at the perp, or.... Get it?
Doohickey, you got it wrong...
I’m actually amazed there weren’t any government business discussed at all.

Oh, yeah, I get it. See post 90. I'm spanking myself for getting snookered by the Enemedia so easily; it's hard to understand such blatant lying and my nature is still an expectation of honesty in others. Lesson learned.
Right.
This has to be stopped - it's Communism 101, pure a simple. Destroy the enemy by slander, accusations...they don't have to have any validity. People will question - and that will be all that counts.
I hope and pray that this tatcic won't work so well in this day when people have access to the Internet and get the facts, rather than depending on the MSM's force-fed lies.
The story is the criminally hacking of private email - PERIOD
Yes, I saw after I posted that you did see the light! LOl! Sorry.
From the Malkin Blog entry I posted above:
I really wanted to get something incriminating which I was sure there would be, just like all of you anon out there that you think there was some missed opportunity of glory, well there WAS NOTHING, I read everything, every little blackberry confirmation all the pictures, and there was nothing,
This guy had the WILL to find some dirt on her (rumor's going around that he's the son of a State Rep from TN or some such - it was politically motivated by the Dems of course) but there simply wasn't anything there.
Can anyone imagine the biased press sitting on the story if they'd found something?
The perps emailed the crappy screen shots they had to the press anyways. If there'd been dirt there, they'd have been emailed even faster and the press woulda jumped all over it.
Nothing at all.

So you're swallowing the Communist propaganda that she was using her personal email acc't for business!
That's a perfect example of why the Communist 101 tactic of slander and false accusations to destroy opponents works - there will be enough people who will swallow all or part of it, hurting the person slimed.
Palin was simply chatting with a friend, who also happens to be in the gov't, about PERSONAL matters. ARe you saying she has no right to do this?
LISTEN UP FOLKS...Palin was using her private email for private, NON_gov't, NON-business chat.
The felons also stole and printed personal photos of her children and Bristol's cell number - So should they also not have family photos on their personal email site? etc
Don't buy into the slander. It's what they count on.
She is the victim - not the criminal. Let's keep our eye on the ball.
Using this logic, none of our elected officials should ever use a private phone line that is not being recorded, in fact, their offices should be bugged so there is a recording of everything they say that has anything to do with official business or people with whom they ever conduct or discuss official business. I wonder if Congress will go for that?

Folks this is mis-direction going on by the Dems and the MSM.
This is the Democrats WATERGATE.
So instead of letting the focus be on the “break in”, they are trying to change the focus to how she used her personal email account. That does not matter right now.
If they had broken into her house, and taken documents, there would be a 50 state manhunt going on right now.
Keep this in the news, and keep everyone focused on the real issue - hacking her private email.
Even Greta was trying to keep her panel focused last night. She couldn’t get them to stop spewing about IF she conducted business through this email account. Not having evidence to back them up didn’t stop them. Gosh, people are being particularly stupid this election year.
I cant comment on what Alaska law may be regarding conduct of official state business on non-government systems, retention of official correspondence, etc. so I wont speculate.
You are worse than speculating. you are carrying the Communists water for them by saying she used her email for business' and or to 'conduct official state business'
NOW LISTEN UP! You people here that are commenting about her using her personal email for 'business' etc = SHE DIDN'T and WASN'T. All she was doing was chatting with friends about NON-gov't and NON-business stuff. Does she not have this right?
Please, Freepers, stop falling into the Communist 'throw mud, some will stick" tactic and stick with the facts.
The only thing wrong here is a criminal act of hacking someone's email.
I'm beginning to wonder if some of the posters are RAt sleepers?
I’m so glad we have people on FR who know things like that. Thank you for the info.
