SAN PABLO --
Amariae Sanders was a 16-year-old boy who may have thought a San Pablo gift shop would be an easy mark. But when he vaulted the counter while armed with a sawed-off shotgun, he had no way of knowing that the store owner would fight back, police say.
Brian Wogsland, the owner of A&L Posters on San Pablo Ave., had been robbed twice before and was ready when Sanders and another young man entered about 5 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said. He pulled a handgun and fired numerous shots, striking Sanders in the head and chest.
In an instant, Sanders was dead, and Wogsland was left trying to deal with the third - and most violent - incident over the past year in which he was targeted by robbers.
"He was pretty upset when we interviewed him," said police Sgt. Dave Lewellyn. "He obviously didn't want to have to shoot anybody. But he has been the victim of violent crime, and at some point he's going to have to take these kinds of measures to protect himself. He told us he was in fear for his life."
After Wogsland opened fire, the other would-be robber fled out the front door of the shop at 14650 San Pablo Ave. He remained at large today.
Sanders attended Delta Continuation High School in Richmond, officials said.
Police have contacted his mother, who lives in San Pablo. "She seemed to be a genuinely good person," Lewellyn said.
The most recent robbery at Wogsland's store happened two months ago. In one of the two earlier robberies, he was beaten and had a gun fired near his face, police said. Suspects have been arrested in at least one of the earlier cases.
Wogsland did not return a call today seeking comment.

Any bets on how soon the owner is sued by the perp’s mother?
One criminal who’ll never pull a sawed-off shotgun on an innocent business owner again. Wonder if he thinks it was the smartest thing to do now that he’s smoking in hell.
Give him a medal!
A 16 year old punk with a federally prohibited weapon, a sawed-off shotgun.
Glad the bastard is dead. One less piece of crap off the streets and one less very deadly weapon out of circulation.
This shooting was the kind of gun control I like - deadly accurate.
Feel sorry for the punk’s mother/family. They are also the victims of Sanders criminality.
Good shooting. That’s another criminal taken off the streets.
I am all misty eyed. Oh well. Time to go bowling.
I hope even in moonbat SF, a jury won’t believe that a man who had three thugs against one, one armed with a sawed-off shotgun, didn’t have the right to defend himself.
Tap....tap.
In the Bay Area, the only acceptable response to violent crime is to ball up in the fetal position.

I will kind of...pity...them. ;-)
Obama’s campaign has reacted quickly with this statement:
According to the police report, it has come to our attention that the shop owner did not advise the victim of this brutal and gruesome attack of his Miranda rights.
It is quite clear, and let’s be honest and get this straight, the shop owner willfully, and with extreme malice, violated the victim’s constitutional rights.
Therefore, we will seek to prosecute the perpetrator of this heinous crime, against a person who’s liberties were violated in such a despicable manner, to the full extent of the law.
We can unequivocally guarantee that under an Obama administration, criminals will never again be treated in such a disgusting and vile manner.
Give the guy a key to the city and praise their name.
Yep, shop owner gets to try to sleep with thoughts of having offed a kid, and the kid's mother gets to spend the rest of her life thinking about the kid she used to have.
A kind of win - win situation, huh?
You forgot the third win. The lessening of the burden placed upon the taxpayers to deal with the perp should he have been arrested, let out of prison, and made free to victimize once again.
