Berkeley Sea Scout leader sent to prison

A Berkeley Sea Scout leader, who was found guilty in July of molesting boys on the troupe's boat (Rosynsky didn't even bother to find out that Sea Scouts are made up of Ships and Crews and what they sail are ships not boats.) under a plea deal, was sentenced Tuesday to six years in prison.
Eugene Evans, 65, must also pay $10,000 in restitution to his victims and register as a sex offender when he is released from prison, Alameda County Superior Court Judge Morris Jacobson ordered following the punishment laid out in the plea deal.
Evans reached the deal with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office in July just before he was set to begin a preliminary trial on 18 felony charges, including child molestation and showing pornographic materials to young boys.
As part of the deal, Evans pleaded no contest to the charges and was found guilty.
Deputy District Attorney Susan Torrence said at the time that the deal was made to spare victims the emotional heartache of having to describe what happened to them on the U.S.S. Farallon, the 85-foot boat used by Evans as leader of the Sea Scouts.
On Tuesday, Phil Schnayerson, Evans' defense attorney, echoed those thoughts and said his client "had some people who he had sexual contact with, which was improper, not forceful.
"He had a tragic flaw," Schnayerson said. "The whole thing was tragic from 100 different ways."
Evans was originally charged with six felony counts of child molestation late last year on suspicion of sexual actions on boys younger than 14 years old. But an investigation after the allegations were made revealed additional victims and a boat filled with pornographic materials.
In the end, Evans was charged with molesting three victims and showing pornographic material to four others.
Torrence has said that there were several other victims who stepped forward and said they were molested by Evans long ago. But Evans could not be charged for those crimes because the acts happened too long ago.
Schnayerson said that while his client made improper contact with some boys, he helped hundreds of others.
"He had to give up the only thing important to him, which is the Sea Scouts," he said. "Hundreds of people supported him who were helped by the program."

I guess the ACLU couldn’t save his goatsmelling ass. Probably too busy fighting for terrorist rights.

I couldn't agree with you more, it is a good riddance!
However, I have one question. BSA has Sea Scouts in my state. It is a VENTURING group / high adverture activity. I thought BSA required all high adventure paticipants to be at least 14 years old? So why would boys under 14 be involved with the group.
Of course, if he'd molest them, he probably wouldn't be worried about those pesky minimum age requirments - but what about the other adults in the group?

Defense: "Other than forcing himself on children he meant well." Why is it that we see a generic form of that argument far too often in our society? "Well, we created this program to make cash payments to unwed mothers and goshdarnit if we didn't end up with more of them. We just cared too much." "I love the wabbit too much, George. Why the wabbit don't move no more?" "We are going to change what we hope to change and that is hope. And if we fail, well, at least we spent your hard-earned money failing to change hope."

Tie the ship’s anchor around his neck and drop him out at sea.

If he was a trooper in Alaska, dems would give him a raise and investigate the Governor who wanted him fired.

There was a big story a few years back about the Berkeley Sea Scouts being kicked out of the Berkeley Marina by the Berkeley City Council because they refused to have homosexual scout masters.
I do not, REPEAT DO NOT, know if that story has anything to do with this story. I just find it remarkable that a few years later, there can be a story about sexual improriety in the Berkeley Sea Scouts that does not mention this major kerfluffle, which happened only a few years ago.

From another story:
In 2006, Evans defended the Berkeley Sea Scouts right to a free berth at the Marina arguing the city was punishing the group for something that wasnt its fault. The Sea Scouts are bound to the policies of their parent body, the Boy Scouts of America, which mandates that gays and atheists be excluded from the organization.
So, Evans was defending the Sea Scouts policy of excluding gays and athiests from the program, not advocating their inclusion.
SO BACK AWAY FROM THE HAIR TRIGGER, PEOPLE!!!

Gee, if this were to become vogue, you might even find a sitting President recruiting interns to use as receptacles,
OH NO, that would never happen.
