The Times in a Tizzy Over Palin
Townhall ^ | 9/16/08 | Joel Mowbray

Hell hath no fury like the Gray Lady scorned.

This weekend, the venerable New York Times ran five hit pieces on Sarah Palin: three breathless op-eds, one blistering editorial and a scathing 3,200-word front-page “news” story remarkable for dismissing even the pretense of balance. (In the interest of thoroughness, at least, the paper also trashed Todd Palin as too involved in his wife’s governorship.)

The paper of record, of course, was hardly the sole perpetrator the Palin Pile-on. It was just the nastiest.

In its sole piece of substantive reporting this weekend on Gov. Palin, the Times eschewed a “mixed bag” approach, as evidenced by the headline, “Once Elected, Palin Hired Friends and Lashed Foes.” No surprises followed.

Despite 80% of Alaskans adoring their governor, the Times managed to find the most vocal members of the other 20%. Almost to a man, the locals quoted in the ostensibly objective front-page story furthered the narrative of John McCain’s running mate as someone whose leadership is primarily marked by vindictive cronyism. While the news piece makes two fleeting mentions of her actually having supporters in her home state, both positive references are quickly coupled with critiques.

Perhaps the Times felt it offered balance by not smearing Gov. Palin in a style section story on her this weekend. That piece was—all 1,000+ words of it—dedicated to the pressing issues related to the vice presidential candidate’s fashion choices. And that was as kind as the paper got.

I suppose it might matter if anyone actually read the NYT.

By this time, the NY Slimes is merely preaching to its little tiny choir - Republicans were never going to get those votes so let the Slimes waste its ink, newsprint and overhead spewing their vitriol.

ROTFLMAO. I don’t know anybody who reads the Times. The paper became a relic after Al Gore invented the internet.

It's no surprise that they NYT is so freaked by here--look at the intensity of her fans. Just as we all vent about Obama in comparison to how the libs burst into tears while talking about him.

To be blunt, I'm kinda bored with the "I Heart Sarah" stuff around here, and hope it doesn't blind people to how close this race is, and how today's financial news is knocking the All Palin All The Time stuff off the front pages and TV screens.

The financial situation is the Dems' game-changer, and just praising Palin to each other ain't gonna get 'er done.

The NYT is dangerous because its stories are picked up by the rest of the MSM and because it provides talking points for the left.

after Lehman Bros.

the Times is now the second originally Southern Jewish family to go north and ultimately lose the family fortune.

wonder who will pick them up?

"how today's financial news is knocking the All Palin All The Time stuff off the front pages and TV screens"

Obama hasn't had a front page in 3 weeks.

Joel Mowbray writes…This weekend, the venerable New York Times ran five hit pieces on Sarah Palin: three breathless op-eds, one blistering editorial and a scathing 3,200-word front-page “news” story remarkable for dismissing even the pretense of balance. Mr. Mowbray, please allow me to suggest a new word for our lexicon, it’s a compound noun used as a verb, and its meaning and application are instantly apparent.

Media-boat, or mediaboat, v. (t)

–verb (used with object), -boat•ed, -boat•ing.

-to use print, broadcast, or online falsehoods to destroy or harm treacherously and viciously: to assassinate a person's character, esp a politically prominent or popular person via the journalistic or entertainment media.

-to conspire clandestinely to act as a media agent for one political party and against another; selectively characterizing the good news of one, and the negative news of the other. The inventing or distortion of facts for reporting to harm political opponents.

Ex. “The networks are media-boating Sarah Palin’s life and history in order to promote left-wing and globalist agendas and to aid Barack Obama.”

I’m adding this suggestion for a new word to several such threads in the next few days. (Hopefully you will overlook the repetitions.)

“Obama hasn’t had a front page in 3 weeks. “

Some suggestions for the NYT, consistent with their election coverage.

OBAMA HEALS FINANCIAL MELTDOWN

LET IT BE KNOW THAT THIS IS THE DAY THE FINANCIAL MELTDOWN COOLED OFF

Or, if they don’t want to give it to Obama, they could try:

PALIN LAUGHS ABOUT SMALL INVESTORS LOSING MONEY

MCCAIN AND BUSH TOOK ALL OF LEHMAN’S MONEY AND SPENT IT ON EARMARKS

PALIN OWNS “WE BUY UGLY HOUSES.” MORTGAGE MELTDOWN A FRONT FOR HER DISHONEST PROFITS

HOW MCCAIN’S FRIENDS AT THE BIG OIL COMPANIES PROFIT FROM MORTGAGE FORECLOSURES ON ELDERLY AND MINORITIES

LEHMAN BANKRUPTCY A CHRISTIAN CONSPIRACY

or the ever popular

PALIN TOO BUSY HANDLING SNAKES TO PAY ATTENTION TO FINANCIAL MELTDOWN

If your opponent is of choleric temper, seek to irritate him. - Sun Tzu

They hate her and they can’t bring themselves under control. You’d think after the first rush of wilding, the first cathartic release of boorish and hysterical screams, these people would be able to calm down a little, to get rational, to look beyond the ad hominem. You’d think it, but you’d be wrong. ...

She seems to have driven these people (both male and female, but the women are by far the worst) into the self-destructive revelation that they are ugly, vulgar and tawdry; and even if they could manage to re-hang their curtains, we’ve seen the truth. ...

I know, it’s amazing how awful Obama is in controlling a news cycle, and it’s proof that without the media helping him, he’d be seen as the Wimp-in-a-suit he is. But today’s news certainly has changed the discussion, and if Obama can take advantage of it—or the media can do it for him—the momentum McCain’s gotten may shift. May.

I was amazed today to hear the noontime liberal talk duo here in Boston STILL going on and on about Palin. Incredible. They can’t control themselves.

Obama is tied to the Franny McMay bailouts, and Wall Streets troubles will not help him. The big news of the day, if McCain can capitalize on it, is the story that 0 interfered in the Bush Administration’s negotiations with the Iraqi Government about US troop withdrawals. That is a VERY big story if it can be made to stick.

Agreed--IF it can be made to stick. Somehow I think the media will be in Edwards Mode on this one ("checking the facts" until after the election).

But as I said yesterday, McCain really needs to drop this and PRESS him about it during the debates.

The media is out of control. Pravda would be less bias than what’s put forth as the free press today.
