The neocons' Palin project
Patrick J. Buchanan, Creators Syndicate, Inc.
Monday, September 15, 2008
Will the neocons who tutored President Bush in the ideology he pursued to the ruin of his presidency do the same for GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin?
Should they succeed, they will destroy her. Yet, they are moving even now to capture this princess of the right and hope of the party.
In St. Paul, Palin was told to cancel a meeting with Phyllis Schlafly and pro-life conservatives. McCain's operatives said Palin had to rest for her Wednesday convention speech.
Yet, on Tuesday, Palin was behind closed doors with Joe Lieberman and officials of the Israeli lobby AIPAC. There, according to the Washington Post, Palin took and passed her oral exams.

When I saw the headline for this article in the sidebar, I knew even before clicking on it that it had to be by Pat Buchanan.
Brother Buchanan, off the reservation, AGAIN!
Two great articles in a row and now this tripe.
Not a sure thing, strictly speakin’, only 99%.
Fair enough. Could have been David Duke.
Dog, vomit; fool, folly.
Its ugly when a paleo-conservative changes direction and starts spewing the Libertarian propaganda of Bob Barr and Ron Paul. Downright ugly!
Yeah Pat really fits well into that SF Chronicle place.
Buchanan and Baker would restrain and punish Israel for going after their muslim oil buddies
maybe he’s being ‘converted’ by Rachel Maddow
I am not on board Pat’s express here in total, but folks who dismiss the idea that there will be a concerted effort to mold Palin into the squishy type of Republican most of us can’t stand, should wake up and smell the roses. There is absolutely no question at all that this type of effort will be exerted to turn Palin, and you can bet the farm it is under way right now.
Palin for all our wishes that it were otherwise, is subservient to McCain’s overall game plan. When he needs to reign her in, she will have to comply. Vice-Presidents are team players by nature, for better or worse. That doesn’t mean that they have to adopt all the policies they will have to support, but it does present an interesting dynamic for those who truly disagree with the policies of their president.
Palin will need strong support by Conservatives, to maintain her solid Conservative outlook while serving with McCain.
Ahh, the anti-antisemitism card. You can do better.
There are still a few race baiters left on FR who survived the enema of '07 who will hold their ears and deny that until they turn blue. Sarah ain't no neocon people.
A neo-con would NEVER say this...
If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberalsif we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is.
I don't know what they would do, neither do you. How is Baker involved in this?
In the article Pat is speculating on the path Sarah is going to take as she concentrates especially on foreign policy, drilling etc. She is immensely popular because she thinks more like Pat and us rather than like W and McCain. He hopes she stays that way and so do I.
If you grade articles by originality, Pat is tops.
Oh right, the "Bush Doctrine". So both Pat Buchanan and Charlie Gibson are trying to paint Sarah Palin as a neo-con.
"Thank you for explaining"
Sigh, I actually voted for him in a primary once. Its the only vote I have come to regret and be ashamed of.
