McCain Responds to Obama's Reported Undermining of the Commander-In-Chief During Wartime [Andy McCarthy]
The McCain Campaign has issued a statement responding to the report from Amer Taheri (see today's web briefing) that Sen. Obama secretly negotiated with the Iraqi government regarding U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. McCain spokesman Randy Scheunemann stated as follows:
At this point, it is not yet clear what official American negotiations Senator Obama tried to undermine with Iraqi leaders, but the possibility of such actions is unprecedented. It should be concerning to all that he reportedly urged that the democratically-elected Iraqi government listen to him rather than the US administration in power. If news reports are accurate, this is an egregious act of political interference by a presidential candidate seeking political advantage overseas. Senator Obama needs to reveal what he said to Iraq's Foreign Minister during their closed door meeting. The charge that he sought to delay the withdrawal of Americans from Iraq raises serious questions about Senator Obama's judgment and it demands an explanation.
How many times has Obama said “The Iraqis are not doing their part?” Throw a few of those clips in the ad and ding-ding-ding there is a winner.
I was hoping they were going to plant the bug in the ear out there...even the concept of him doing this will cost him at least a week’s negative coverage...that leaves him with about 43 days to play with...if it turns out true and he did do this...he will have about 20 days at best in the news cycle to have positve messages come out.
But he is screwed...because there will be 3 debates and his boy Biden has family in legal trouble now as well as Palin ready to destroy him in a debate.
I can still slap you upside your head.
They were calculated at the time they responded.
If they had responded this morning it would have gotten no coverage at all today. Too much time given to the economic crisis. Even Rush only gave it a minute’s worth.
By responding now.. it will make it into tomorrow’s news cycle.
Hang tough, McCain! Don't back off.

And play that ad over and over and over......
I'm sure that Hussein surrogates are 'enlightening' the Iraqi leaders as we speak,,,,
to remind them of....ahmmmmm,,,,,,
what they 'REALLY' (wink) said!!!/s
But come back in a couple hours and the damned stuff's inching up to the living room door.
Oh my, yes! Obama hanging our troops out to dry, as told by one of the nation's best-known veterans. That should be interesting! Start your recorders! :)
I’m double posting because I meant to do this for all.
From the article at your link:
I emphasized to him how encouraged I was by the reductions in violence in Iraq, but also insisted that it is important for us to begin the process of withdrawing U.S. troops, making clear that we have no interest in permanent bases in Iraq, the senator said. I gave him an assurance that should we be elected, an Obama administration will make sure that we continue with the progress thats been made in Iraq, that we wont act precipitously, but that we will move to end U.S. combat forces in Iraq in a manner thats as careful as we were careless getting in.
So he is saying to the Iraqi government We are not interested in permanent bases. By his own admission, he is bargaining with governments in a war!?!?! Did he truly think his path was paved straight to the White House?

Just the HINT of this is going to hurt Obama’s “messiah” standings among his OWN supporters—whether or not they will admit it. Using the delay of “bringing home our troops” as a “trump card” makes him look just like any ordinary political wheeler-dealer, and that might tarnish his image far more than any concern over the legal ramifications of his actions.
Legal trouble???? I missed that. Can you point me to info?
It throws sand in Obama’s gears.
FROM OBAMA’S OWN LIPS ADMITTING THIS IN JUNE OF THIS YEAR:
Please note the last sentence.
http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/06/16/1146329.aspx
He said he told Zebari that negotiations for a Status of Forces agreement or strategic framework agreement between the two countries should be done in the open and with Congress’s authorization and that it was important that that there be strong bipartisan support for any agreement so that it can be sustained through a future administration. He argued it would make sense to hold off on such negotiations until the next administration.
Is it October yet?
>Hes a dunce trying to play chess with grandmasters.
Not quite. He’s trying to play checkers while the real game is chess. And he’s up against grand masters.
Is it possible that McCain aides have already verified the veracity of this story?
Why should we be surprised that he tried to 'Undermine the Commander-in-Chief during wartime'?
Heck, he's spent the last two years trying to UNDERMINE and DEMORALIZE our military's efforts in Iraq,,,,,
while providing AID-AND-COMFORT to our enemies during time of war--with his relentless and incessant calls for an immediate pullout before the job is done!!!!
Nothing new here, nothing at all. No wonder the MSM is yawning!!
