The Big 'What If' (How will Black Americans react if Obama is defeated?)
WaPo ^ | 9/14/2008 | Randall Kennedy

....Never before have my emotions been so exercised by a political campaign. For one thing, never before has a candidate so fully challenged the many inhibitions that have prevented people of all races, including African Americans, from seriously envisioning presidential power in the hands of someone other than a white American. With intelligence, verve and elegance, Obama has opened the public mind to the idea of a black president and made that idea broadly attractive.

The senator's progressive politics, cosmopolitan ethos and pragmatic style have turned me into an enthusiastic supporter, and I savor the prospect of his triumph. But I'm watching this election very closely as I teach a course about it this semester. And I know that the conclusion to this electoral drama is far from determined. Yes, political gravity would seem to favor the Democratic candidate after two terms of Republican control of the White House. Yet the possibility is very real: Barack Obama could lose.

"How will Black Americans react if Obama is defeated?"

They will likely riot, pillage, loot, burn, and go ape$hit as usual.

When Obama loses, I do expect riots. It’ll make the Rodney King stuff look like child’s play.

I dunno about any of you, but I’ll have my rifle with me that day... win or lose. There will be riots either way.

After the landslide on November 4th these should be the talking points:

Our base voted like it always did, and we didn’t have a problem with a WOMAN on our ticket.

YOUR BASE defected from Obama, so if you would like to call anyone racists start with DEMOCRATS, the party of segregation and the KKK. The democratic party’s chickens are coming home to roost!!!!

Because looking at the polls, that’s EXACTLY why Obama is going to lose.

Obama is supported by the Spoiled Brat Generation.

For the most part, white liberals will blame it on racism - they will not accept that their candidate or their judgement is flawed in any way.
Leading Democrat politicians will encourage this to keep the constituency mad at republicans instead of taking a critical look at the liberal establishment.

So most blacks will also blame it on racism, as they have been taught to blame all dis-satisfaction on racist whites.

Many may riot - especially idle young black men.

Others will just be more surly than usual or will take covert action to vent their anger - like spitting in your soup every chance they get, ala Jesse Jackson.

Sorry... if you think there will be riots if Obama is elected.... they’re NOTHING compared to the riots if he is elected.

...will race-baiting intensify?...

In my view, Obama started the race-baiting, and continues it to this day.

What is his view on affirmative action? Soundly in favor. How many decades of affirmative action have we had? It was supposed to be a temporary measure.

I understand how being passed over for good jobs and promotions has been a problem for blacks, but now it has been a problem for white men for far too long.

If Obama really wanted to win the election he would come out with a promise and a plan to dismantle all affirmative action programs within his first 100 days.

Instead he wants to pander to blacks and alienate whites

Yeah, and if Condi Rice were running for Pres as a Republican, would Mr Randall Kennedy vote for her, or would her be accusing her of be a racial sellout...?

Oh please! This is the problem with the Affirmative Action culture. An equal chance is not enough. The right guy has to GET the job, scholarship, contract, whatever. But elections work differently. For now, anyway.
By the way, what score did Obama get on the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT). Harvard Law would normally require a very high score. Learning Obama’s LSAT result would tell us whether the admission was legit or the result of the racial spoils system prevalent in just about all our universities. What reporter will try to find out?

To me Obama just doesn't seem like an American Black at all. He acts more like an international or a cosmopolitan, leftist white. I really wonder if our American Blacks relate to him as much as reported.

Black Americans ought to figure out they have more in common with white Americans then they do with this anti-American citizen of the world.

Some people just don’t know what’s good for them.

Isn’t it an insult to the vast majority of African-American people to hint that there could be violence if Obama doesn’t win this election?

They're the ones threatening the riots.

Correct! Why is this man considered black when he is bi-racial? He sees himself as black even though he is equally white.

Some may riot, some will pout, but absolutely none will move out.

Bravo! A classic tag line if there ever was one.
