KDKA’s John Shumway reported: “A local couple unexpectedly got to meet Vice Presidential Candidate Gov. Sarah Palin and GOP Presidential Nominee Sen. John McCain during their visit to Washington County last weekend. They share something in common with Palin. They also have a child with Down syndrome. In a sea of smiling faces at Consol Energy Park, Kurt and Margie Kondrich, along with their daughter, Chloe, caught the attention of the candidates.”
Margie was holding a sign that said, “We (Heart) Kids With Down Syndrome.”
McCain and Palin left the bus and met with the family. “They just came up as warm as could be and said ‘Hi’ and they thanked us for coming,” Kurt Kondrich said. Palin asked if she could hold Chloe.
Later, Palin brought down Trig, their child with Down syndrome, from the bus. “I got to see him,” said Margie. “It was very emotional for me but I was very proud of him and my daughter and I kissed him on his chubby little face. I actually told her that her son was beautiful and that they would all be fine and it’s a lot of work but they are very blessed with having a child with Down Syndrome.”
Other than Shumway’s story on KDKA, I didn’t see this reported anywhere else. It seemed like a story with a human touch.

Well you had me until that one...most the folks I ever visited in nursing homes were put there by their children who never visited.

She gets visitors every day.
However, she and two others are the ONLY ones who get visitors. There are 11 spinsters and 9 old bachelors.
Agree with the rest of your post except this one. They won't have visitors not because they didn't have children, but because they are bitter women. But women who have children aren't exempt from bitterness, and there are lot of people in nursing homes who had children who never have visitors.
I hear this argument way too many times for having children, which is the worst reason ever. (Not saying you're saying that, just saying.) Even sweet old people who were great parents unfortunately end up old and alone. It's really sad that we neglect our older people the way we do (as a society).
But I digress.
I know a 96-year-old lady in a nursing home who never married and never had children. However, all her life she has always been others-oriented. Even now, she detects staff that are hurting and reaches out to them and is constantly making new friends.
Anyway, she has more visitors than any older person I know, and receives (and sends) letters from many others. A peek in her guestbook shows multiple visitors every day. It's amazing.
So again, having children has nothing to do with getting visitors when you are old. You lose credibility when you use that as an argument for having children. It's the stupidest reason out there. A very self-centered reason, in fact. You should have children because you want to give of yourself to someone other than yourself. But not having children does not mean you can't or shouldn't give of yourself. Mother Theresa is one well-known example, but there are many unknown examples out there as well.
Everyone in the country needs to learn this lesson. You are absolutely correct, and our country has been dragged down to an unknown degree by the leftist Media. Thank you for stating it so well.
The media ignored Tom Tancredo. Now the liberal mainstream media are trying their best to destroy Sarah Palin with an unprecedented campaign full of smears, lies , slander,spin, deceptive editing techniques, skewed camera angles etc.
The media wanted to get rid of Sarah Palin and Tom Tancredo because they are conservatives who are against the big government socialism the liberals/Democrats are religiously for.
