Ladies like the Palin look (WALB TV - Albany, GA)
WALB-TV ^ | 08/13/2008 | Jim Wallace

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Republican Vice Presidential Nominee has inspired women in South Georgia. It's not just her political platform. Sarah Palin's eyeglasses have inspired women to want the same look. Optometrists in Albany say they are seeing customers demanding "the Palin effect."

The Governor of Alaska burst into the national spotlight when she was named John McCain's vice presidential running mate. Her eyeglasses part of her signature look, and women in South Georgia noticed, and want them.

Beverly Johnson said "I thinks she looks very nice in her glasses, and I would consider buying that kind of glasses."

O.D.-Optometrist Ellis Cosby says customers are asking Sarah Palin eyeglasses. "We've had a couple of calls. I actually had a customer in yesterday that referred to it."

The Hour Glass confirms the frameless style glasses are hot. Assistant Manager Christi Barlow said, "Some of our sales associates say they have seen as many as 7 or 8 this week, come in and ask for the frames."

"She's popular and in the news right now," said Johnson said. "And people usually see what people in the news are wearing and looking like, and follow suit."

"Absolutely. It's like the Jennifer Anniston haircut. Everybody's got to have one," Barlow said.

But Cosby thinks it's more than just a fashion trend. He say one of his customer's is glad it's now OK for women to wear glasses. "The fact you had a very attractive political figure that is not afraid to wear glasses. She looks very confident in them, very comfortable in them. And that's what appeals to her."

These polls in South Georgia show Governor Palin has grabbed women's attention with her eyeglasses style, and they are jumping on the bandwagon. "I think so. I think she started a trend that's gonna stay with us for a while," Barlow said.

Every eyeglasses distributor we talked with today confirmed they have never in the last eight years had anyone ask for eyeglasses like Dick Cheney's.

Article in NYT (I know, I know) about her hairdresser in Alaska. Very nice and fun. Author threw in just enough snarkiness to keep her job but also explains that Palin’s extremely gorgeous with her glasses off and her hair down and she understands it’s a distraction.

"Yea! It's fashionable to be feminine again! Long hair, real high heels and skirts. Yea!"

In total agreement here. I HATE the short-haired, no style, no makeup, pant-suited look. If we are proud to be women we should look like women. We diminish ourselves when we think that to be equal to men in value we have to look like them. NO! God created us each with unique characteristics, and we should play them up. Guess that's also why I LOVE to see beards on men as well.

Panic sets in for Obama, Democrats

Obama asked Biden if he would do anything to win. "Of course, anything you say partner," Biden replied.

"So let me get this straight. You're saying Sarah and Cindy are bringing
elegance back to the White house, and Barack and I are not? Bummer."

She wears her hairstyle the way SHE likes it. It’s the way SHE is comfortable and...it is versatile and can be worn in a cute pony tail or long and casual or an updo. That’s the problem ... she doesn’t have to wear her hair the way someone else THINKS she should wear it. That’s what makes her who she is. She is her OWN person and not driven by so called fashion or so called “hairstyles.” Some tend to call her a “Stepford Wife.” Well, seems to me if you take a good long look around...most of the women wear the SAME hairstyle, the SAME AWFUL LIPGLOSS, the SAME clothes, etc. THAT is being a Stepford wife.

I love Condi Rice becuase she too is independent and wears her hair and clothing the way SHE wants and now so does Sarah Palin. Isn’t that what feminism was supposed to be all about???? Being your own self. Doing your “own thing?
Now we have a beautiful, intelligent, smart candiate who is also a mother, wife and sports woman and people talk about her changing her hairstyle and what she should or shouldn’t do. It boggles my mind.

Let’s let Gov Palin do what has worked for her and has brought her to where she is today. She knows what she is doing and no matter what she does with her hairstyles or her glasses or her clothing...has anyone noticed the joy, light and beauty eminating from her very being? Just look at that smile? It’s not just a smile...it’s a smile bursting with love and it lights up her whole face and makes her eyes dance as well. This can’t be manufactured. This comes from what she is all about inside and it manifests itself on her face. You don’t see the ANGER and Bitter look that so many liberals have all the time. It’s like there is no room for joy in their lives...just anger all the time. Mad at the world for whatever reason. So, it’s nice to see this joy and happiness on someone who wants nothing but the best for her family, our families and our country.

This woman is genuine. She is in love. She loves her children and her parents and she loves this country. She will go forward and bring that same kind of enthusiasm with her as she has done already with the people of this country. The opposition is living up to their push for Green because they are all totally GREEN in the gills only it is not for energy purposes....it is GREEN with jealousy of all she is.

She has come to where she is today because of who SHE is and not because of what others WANT her to be. She’s doing just fine and looking beautiful to both men and women. I lvoe it. She has shoved the feminist movement back into their own faces and is showing it up for what it is. Void of everything.

McCain/Palin our gift.

Amen. Just take a look at what I laughingly call the “runway” or the “red carpet.” The designers of the so called clothing that is exhibited there must laugh like that infamous laughing mouse all the way to the bank at the thought of putting something out there and watching these models and hollywood jokes wear what THEY call fashion. I guess I admire the designers cause they can put trash bags out there and if their names are on them the idiots who wear them think they look great. Gotta give the designers credit. It’s called capitalism I think. Ha,ha.
