Ladies like the Palin look (WALB TV - Albany, GA)

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Republican Vice Presidential Nominee has inspired women in South Georgia. It's not just her political platform. Sarah Palin's eyeglasses have inspired women to want the same look. Optometrists in Albany say they are seeing customers demanding "the Palin effect."

The Governor of Alaska burst into the national spotlight when she was named John McCain's vice presidential running mate. Her eyeglasses part of her signature look, and women in South Georgia noticed, and want them.

Beverly Johnson said "I thinks she looks very nice in her glasses, and I would consider buying that kind of glasses."

O.D.-Optometrist Ellis Cosby says customers are asking Sarah Palin eyeglasses. "We've had a couple of calls. I actually had a customer in yesterday that referred to it."

The Hour Glass confirms the frameless style glasses are hot. Assistant Manager Christi Barlow said, "Some of our sales associates say they have seen as many as 7 or 8 this week, come in and ask for the frames."

"She's popular and in the news right now," said Johnson said. "And people usually see what people in the news are wearing and looking like, and follow suit."

"Absolutely. It's like the Jennifer Anniston haircut. Everybody's got to have one," Barlow said.

But Cosby thinks it's more than just a fashion trend. He say one of his customer's is glad it's now OK for women to wear glasses. "The fact you had a very attractive political figure that is not afraid to wear glasses. She looks very confident in them, very comfortable in them. And that's what appeals to her."

These polls in South Georgia show Governor Palin has grabbed women's attention with her eyeglasses style, and they are jumping on the bandwagon. "I think so. I think she started a trend that's gonna stay with us for a while," Barlow said.

Every eyeglasses distributor we talked with today confirmed they have never in the last eight years had anyone ask for eyeglasses like Dick Cheney's.

Personally, I think she would look smashing in a shorter, layered hairstyle. The updo looks a bit impromptu - like you’re having a bad hair day and all you can figure out to do is put it all up in a pony tail. Just my opinion.

Her glasses and make up look very professional and feminine at the same time.

There is something about being in the wilderness, it’s cold, and you are with a hot girl. Life seems to take on new meaning...Kind of caveman-like...I guess.

That is HILARIOUS!!! One of the things you can tell from an election, is the side with the best sense of humor usually wins. The Left is stuck with bitterness, anger, and derangement, while the Conservatives are bringing it with the laughs!

WE'RE THE HAPPY WARRIORS!

No. There are pictures of her in shorter hair with layers and it looks awful on her (really looks awful on everybody, actually). I love the updo! Love it! That's the do I use for formal occasions with sparkly hairpins, although a lot more curled. It's far more feminine and says, "I'm cool, laid-back and not afraid to be a woman." It's also a lot more versatile (from personal experience I know this to be true). I also like the bob-dangle earrings and the high heels.

Yea! It's fashionable to be feminine again! Long hair, real high heels and skirts. Yea!

Speaking only for myself we like the Palin look too. Naturaly pretty and wearing decen’t clothes instead of designer pant suits. Mrs. Palin is herself in whatever she is wearing. Clothes accent her not make the woman.

Sarah has so much JFK-like charisma. America loves her.

Can you imagine people walking in to a plastic surgeon's office and asking for the “obama ear effect?”

On the secondary article the first one points to, there is a catty crack at the end:

“Let’s home that teenage pregnant daughters isn’t the other craze Sarah inspires.”

They just can’t resist getting nasty digs in at her wherever they can.

Her hairstyle is a smart, no-nonsense, all-business style that is specifically for her day job and her glasses reinforce the effect, which is why people say she looks like a librarian (a no-nonsense, all-business type of day job). It's understood that the look is for a professional setting, and she can switch to a more casual or glamorous or sexy look pretty quickly. She's ready for anything, daytime or evening. A shorter cut limits her options. The versatility of her look goes with her versatile personality. It fits her perfectly.
