TOKYO (Reuters) - No injuries had been reported after two explosions were heard late on Friday near a U.S. naval base where a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier will soon dock south of Tokyo, Japanese police said on Saturday.
Police said investigations were underway and that rocket fragments had been found near the controversial naval base at Yokosuka, but few other details were available.
Residents had reported that the roof of one nearby home had been damaged by the blasts, police said.
The blasts occurred about two weeks before the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington is scheduled to arrive at the port city of Yokosuka on September 25.

Godzilla causing the smackdown????
Jap red army at it again?
Thank God my son left there on the Kitty Hawk more than a month ago.
Proooobably not really serious.
Kooks of both right and left persuasions in Japan make a kind of Kabuki ritual of bombing sites like these —sounds crazy, but mostly it’s symbolic. There are biker gangs of kids with shaved eyebrows and parachute-pants who go around, making pests of themselves....
It’s still interesting news, of course.
Until I hear of a body count, I won’t think very much of this.
Still a great post, though...
My daughter in law is there waiting on my son to get there on the GW.
Please say a prayer or 2 if you can.
will definitely add them to my daily prayers.
and you too.
Will do.
Prayers Said.
They heard the left wing popping their tops all the way to Japan??
thank you all...I just emailed my son on the ship to see if he knows anything. I hope to hear from him, soon.
Your welcome.
You can bet that our prayers are for you, her,him and the whole crew.
May God watch over all of you.

Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.
Sounds like Chukaku-ha. A dwindling bunch of aging geezers who resolutely “smash” the U.S. military presence with their homemade bottle rockets every now and then.
Gaijin’s right. They are as ritualistic as kabuki — and almost as boring.
..over there in the mid 80’s...

I was homeported in Yokosuka 60-62 and remember when the protestors blocked the main gate...after some frenzied negotiations the protestors were ‘given’ one of the 3 gates and set up shop. We were allowed to come and go, unmolested etc.
I think (or the rumor was) the alternate was to shut down the town to Liberty and the locals were having NONE of that and probably would have taken care of the protestors if it came to that.
You are correct. Just talked to my d-in-law (on the base). She said she hadn’t even heard about it. So much for that, eh? I guess it’s business as usual in Yokosuka. Thank goodness.
