President Bush received updates on Hurricane Ike throughout the day.
Deputy Press Secretary Tony Fratto: He's very comfortable that Texas emergency management authorities are doing everything they can. They have a very strong team down in Texas for dealing with the hurricanes. Obviously our thoughts and prayers are with the residents in the affected areas. The President encourages all the residents of Texas to listen to the guidance they're getting from their local emergency management authorities. And if they're getting direction to evacuate, to do it quickly; but just to pay very close mind to their personal safety and listen to the guidance of local emergency management officials. The President will continue to receive updates during the day and when he returns back in Washington today keep as close as possible to events in Texas and -- obviously a part of the country you know that he knows very well. I am deeply concerned about Hurricane Ike. It is a major storm headed toward a large population soon. I was on the phone this morning with Secretary Chertoff and Director Paulison of FEMA. I spoke to my friend, Governor Perry, yesterday. The state of Texas is preparing for this emergency. I suspect there's going to be some Texans headed for Oklahoma. And I know that they're going to find good people up here who want to help them.

My brother called from his location on Highway 290, and they had hurricane force winds early this morning and water came through the walls through all crevices in the new home of his son. They will have sheetrock damage if nothing else.
They are reporting a “Winnie-the-Pooh” kind of rainy day now....and the grandkids were watching cartoons.:D
He is afraid of what he’ll find at his home in Seabrook. They know there is no power and since they are right on Taylor Lake, near Clear Lake, they know there must be some flooding. Clear Lake is the town where NASA is located.

Just seen some footage of Clearlake on FNC does not look good.

Thanks for the update. Good news that everyone is safe. Hopefully insurance will cover all the damage and that it’s minimal. I’ll pray for a quick end to all the upheaval.
Thanks for the prayers...and your update on Seabrook, Snugs!
His insurance policy was one of the few things my brother
took with him. He didn’t think they’d have to be gone for
so long. With no power, it’s going to be an oven in their
house...and the sun will be out before lone.
