Alaska state legislators were asked to approve subpoenas for the husband of GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and 12 others, as part of an ongoing investigation into whether Palin abused her power as state governor. palin french Troopergate investigator Sen. Hollis French seeks subpoenas for 13 witnesses and the phone records of Sarah Palin aide.
In a nondescript conference room filled to capacity, special counsel Steven Branchflower asked lawmakers to issue subpoenas to Alaska "First Dude" Todd Palin and a dozen current and former state officials, including aides to Gov. Palin, to determine whether she had overstepped her authority in firing one of her commissioners in July.
Palin has said she fired Monegan because she wanted to move his department in a "new direction," and he was not being "a team player on budgeting issues."
When the flap erupted in July, Palin maintained her office had not pressured Monegan to fire Wooten. The governor was forced to reframe her position in August, after a recording surfaced of a phone call in which one of her aides, Frank Bailey, discussed firing Wooten with a state trooper official.
"I do now have to tell Alaskans that such pressure could have been perceived to exist although I have only now become aware of it," Palin said at the time, noting that in addition to the call, another two dozen contacts from her aides and even her husband to public safety officials about Wooten had been identified.
Monegan has said Palin had discussed Wooten with him personally on two occasions, and emailed him about the matter. He said he believed his refusal to fire Wooten led her to dismiss him.

OK, time to post pic of "independent" investigators posing in Obama Alaska HQ.
Donks — always ready to defend those who attack children with Tazers, child molesters, and other scum.
The Obamabots REALLY don’t want to go here. But they really are just too d@mn stupid to understand why, so I’m sure that wont stop them...
If anyone wants on or off (?!) my "Todd Palin is a HUNK" ping list, please let me know.
I wonder how the investigators would like being investigated.
I think this is all a conspiracy by the Obama campaign and the Democratic Party to frame Palin and make her look bad. This needs to end now! They’ve gotta stop playing these pathetic and dirty games!
The more of this garbage they do, the more stupid Obama looks.
McCain-Palin’08!!!
Do these subpoenas have any legal weight at all or are they merely political tools?
Certainly could happen.
Hollis French is a paid obama hack.
The trooper not only should have been fired but put on trial for assaulting a child, found guilty, and put in an Alaskan prison. There is probably a list of infractions the guy she fired has written up on him ...wonder if this will become public.
I also think any dems holding office in Alaska will have great difficulty trying to undermine Palin in this effort..the people will vote them out..and if the major media go after Palin, they will be hurting for viewers.
Wholly cow!!!
They actually managed to find 14 and 1/4 Democrats in Alaska.... Who’d of thunk it?
It’s perfectly OK for an executive to fire a subordinate, as long as you are a Democrat. But when you are a republican, well, your firings are political and have to be investigated, ya’ know.
Monegon was offered another position but refused it. He quit.
Gee, what a suprise!
“Do these subpoenas have any legal weight at all or are they merely political tools?”
The subpoenas have legal authority. The guys issuing them are the political tools.
Remember the Tom Delay indictment? Delay tried desperately to get the whole matter decided before the election, and it's STILL languishing in the Texas appeals courts.
“Do these subpoenas have any legal weight at all or are they merely political tools?”
I am not sure, but here is some other info from today:
“Gov. Sarah Palin’s administration is threatening legal action to block subpoenas by the Alaska Legislature as part of its investigation into whether she abused her authority in trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper.
In a letter to lawmakers, an assistant attorney general wrote that the administration was prepared to go to court to quash the subpoenas of Department of Administration staff if they’re issued as expected today.
But the letter, released yesterday, also suggested that if lawmakers agree that the governor has legal authority to designate staff to review confidential personnel files, the staff members will voluntarily speak with the Legislature’s investigator - no subpoenas necessary.
Sen. Kim Elton, chairman of the Legislative Council, was on a plane and could not be reached for comment yesterday. An aide, Jesse Kiehl, said: “He’s read the letter. I don’t believe that we have written back.””

They are simply hoping to make political hay out of it if/when Mrs. Palin claims marital privilege, as is her right.
“if/when Mrs. Palin claims marital privilege”
When she tells the media:
“My husband wanted to go after him with a 2x4, but I convinced him to let us go “Another Direction” “
She’ll seem like a hero to women....
