Today in America times are tough and customers are hard to come by. That is why it is important not to do your customers wrong. DirecTV doesnt seem to understand this philosophy. They give you substandard service and then when you had enough they try to extort money from you. I have cancelled my DirecTV service because of bad or what I like to call NO customer service. Now they want to tell me I owe almost $400.oo in contract cancellation fees. I never signed a contract with DirecTV. I have noticed through all my research that many people have fell prey to these unethical tactics. I am here to let Mr. Chase Carey know that down here in the great state of Georgia that we may cling to guns and religion but we also cling to our money. We are not uneducated idiots! I started this blog to help people who may run into the same problems with DirecTV and to help those who are looking for a TV service provider to think twice before asking DirecTV to install equipment in their homes. They will, I repeat they will extort your money and lie to you!!! I want to say this also for those of you thinking of cancelling your DirecTV service make sure that you close all accounts that you have used with them for payment of services as you can see from the videos on my blog they can ruin your Christmas. If I can take just one customer a year from DirecTV it will be worth all the time I put into this site http://1man1mission.blogspot.com/ I hope that because of their dishonest policies and business practices that I can cost them thousands of dollars worth of business each year. Mr. Carey and his cronies think that I will just give up or lay down my mission or that I will get tired and leave them alone all I can say to the DirecTV staff is it will be a cold day in hell before I will be silenced. Now there is much work to do on the war front! Dont let big companies like DirecTV push you around and take your money do something about it! One man one mission!!
I would also like to let everyone know that Dish Network is up front and honest and yes you will have to sign a contract but at least you know what youre getting into.

I love DirecTv and I think they’re customer service is exceptional.
You know, I always say that if there's one thing I love more than threads that don't belong in Breaking News, it's threads with misspelled titles that don't belong in Breaking News.

Same here. I have been a DirecTV customer since 1997.
DirecTV’s customer service reps have freakishly small hands and smell of cabbage.
(And further, the slightest inconvenience to you and they end up giving you Starz or Showtime for 6 months free to make it up to you. LOL!)
NO MORE.
Their customer service is now terrible. Awful. Nonexistent.
As one example, I know an 86 year old woman who's children persuaded her to go from cable TV to Direct TV but the remote and features are too much for her. Direct TV will not let her cancel unless she pays $400, which she doesn't have. So she basically doesn't/can't watch TV anymore. There's more to the story I won't go into here other than to say it is unflattering to Direct TV.
Direct TV will never see another penny of my money and I was a very loyal, supportive customer for many years.
Huh? I have DirectTv. You pick up the remote, turn on the tv (1 button) and hit your channel (1-3 buttons). Since she would have to turn on the tv anyway, and choose a channel, even if she were using an old-fashioned dial, what is the problem? You don't have to use the special features if you don't want to - I rarely use any of them.
This is not a slight against your friend, but if she can't hit the 'on' button and choose a channel, there may be other problems besides DirectTV's customer service.

The ONLY time I had a real hassle with them, I ended up getting a new TiVo receiver (which I was going to buy anyway) for almost nothing!
Yes, there are. Like every now and then her TV starts speaking Spanish. Customer service is not friendly nor patient in fixing this, each time it happens. And there are others, so you are right.
