Illegals are Leaving the Area (in last year 102K have left North Carolina, 40K left Charlotte)

Folks at local Spanish language newspaper Que Pasa are calling it the exodus.

Executive Editor Alejandro Manrique says his reporters see signs of it all over Charlotte...Just this week they printed a feature on Hispanic taxi drivers who are seeing customers disappear.

They say they lose around 50 percent of their customer base.

He says Hispanic restaurants, night clubs, markets, you name it...are reporting drops in customers.

From May '07 to June '08, the Center for Immigration Studies estimates 1.3 million illegal immigrants left the U.S...an estimated 102 thousand of those left North Carolina...Manrique estimates 40 thousand of those left Charlotte.

But why?

Increasing people having lost their jobs, or getting paid less.

The economy is one reason there's less construction and service jobs out there. But that's not the only reason..

If they've committed a crime in our community they're out of here. The 287g program started by former sheriff Jim Pendergraph is part of the reason too. Under it illegal immigrants who are arrested are marked for deportation. It's spread throughout the state.

Also, Manrique says thanks to recent law changes it's now next to impossible for illegals to get licenses or license plates. North Carolina was once a haven where immigrants up and down the east coast came to fraudulently get licenses.

Add all that up and it equals a mass exodus.

I don't want to here ever again how local and state laws and law enforcement cannot make a difference in stemming the tide of illegal aliens.

Sounds like NC has really cracked down on illegal alienism. Great Work!

Now, if we can get other states to do the same...

Of course, La Raza, the US Chamber/Collective of Communists arent happy...oh well, too bad. America has spoken....tired of illegal alienism

Too bad that the illegals are not returning to their home countries. Many are simply moving to states that continue to welcome them.

They’ve all left N.Carolin and have moved to Florida.
Seems those states who have taken the illegal curse head on like Arizona and N.Carolina are seeing drastic reductions in ilegals.
Here in Florida we have whole towns of nothing but illegals and still our very stupid politicians do nothing about it.
Indiantown, LaBelle, South Bay, Pahokee, and many others are full of illegals and yet you could never find an ice agent.
Why? because big agribusiness owns things here.

That’s understandable, your state invited them.

they seem to be in georgia. we are building new schools for them and
providing top level healthcare as well as babycare for their burgeoning
families. there seems to be unlimited funds in georgia to meet the
needs of the illegals, however, firestations are being shut down, police
hours cutback. although i want ga to stay republican, we are being hosed
by perdue, chambliss and isaksen.

Gosh whata shock.

Law enforcement and turning off the freebies magnet leads to the criminal class blowing town.

This is wonderful!

It’s up to states facing an inflood of illegals (like Florida) to get laws passed such as NC’s. If enough states do this, the illegals won’t be able to find sanctuaries.

We've been wondering why we've been immune to the economic slowdown.

Less illegals means more jobs for residents. Less drain on government resources means less need for tax hikes.

And now that I've bought my house when the housing market was at the bottom it's perfectly okay with me if the housing market recovers. ;)

North Carolina laws are still a joke. But I guess you can get results being less illegal-friendly than some other states.

I wonder if raising the Minimum Wage has resulted in lost income for illegals.

How is it racist to be happy about ILLEGAL aliens leaving. Shame on you for teaching this darling little boy to cry racism when someone stands up against something illegal.
