** EXCERPT **
This is one promise that Senator John McCain might struggle to keep if he does win in November. When asked by Time's Rick Stengel, moderating the 9/11 anniversary forum on national service here at Columbia University in uptown New York city, whether he would give Barack Obama a cabinet job, he responded that he would.
"Governor Schwarzenegger has made the service czar a cabinet-level appointment," Stengel said. "Would you, as president, do the same and would you name Senator Obama to your cabinet for National Service?" McCain paused for a beat before replying with a smile: "Yes!" Cue laughter and applause.
He also praised Senator Obama for his "outstanding" work as a community organiser - a profession derided by Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin at the Republican convention in St Paul last week. "Of course I respect community organisers," he said. "Of course I respect people who serve their communities. Sentaor Obama's service in that area is outstanding."

Hopefully this is just a joke. Otherwise, WTF?

If this is true, it lowers my opinion of John McCain greatly. Obama is a Marxist, and does not have the interests of the American people in his heart. This shows a great lack of discernment in John McCain and shows that his choice of Sarah Palin was more luck than brains.
This will loose him at least 3 points.
I am sure they can find some useful roles for Mr. Obama.
I think it would be hilarious. Do you think the Left would ever forgive him?
The problem with Obama is that I can’t think of one single policy decision that I would want him to be a head of, or that I would like. I bet that as a person he is the kind you wouldn’t mind hanging out with, but his views from Abortion to the Iraq War just don’t coincide with mine. I even find him veering way too far off track when he justifies scripture for Civil Unions and I am benign on them. I could think of Joe Lieberman, like many here would say, as Sec. of Defense possibly but Obama is so far out there. Perhaps he would be suited to a cabinet post dealing with Islam or Africa, perhaps US Ambassador to Africa. Other than that I don’t have a clue what Obama would be useful for.
The funny thing is that McCain has been rather nice to Obama, basically killing him with kindness. Yet with all of those ads before the Sarah Palin pick, he didn’t seem to have his campaign let go from mocking Obama’s political personality and also, perhaps, personal personality. And the funny thing....even with those compliments being paid he is still inching upwards in the polls.
Let’s see, McCain is asked a direct question, and says yes. Obama is asked a direct question, and says, ugh, err, ugh, I guess my staff will have to advise me on that point. What’s not to get? McCain shows he’s willing to work with others on a bi-partisan level, and Obama shows he can’t make a decision.

There's absolutely no chance Obama would ask or take such a job.
Give him HUD... He’ll end up stealing money and get indicted.
the dept. of crack smokers and male prostitutes is a cabinet level position ?
Berkley community organizer comes to mind, maybe head of the tree sitting committee.
Groundskeeper.
This actually reminds of a question from the Palin debate on CSPAN. The candidates were asked if they would hire one another if they won. Tony Knowles hedged and evaded, and Palin said she would hire Knowles as her chef. Ha ha.
Which it was why it was such a good answer. Obama's not going to follow up and get details in writing.
McCain lobbed the ball into Obama's court and Mr "Running a campaign makes me Presidential" flubbed the return, again.
You understand what happened in answer to a direct question which was a set-up IMHO to get McCain to say NO — handled it perfectly and let Gov Palin and Rudy keep making fun of Obama as a community organizer.
Some people cannot see the forest for the trees of what would have happened if Sen McCain said no. The media and Obama would have had a field day. Some need to take their blinders off and understand politics 101. Not everything is black and white in a campaign or you will likely lose.
Politics 101 — don’t give your opponent ammunition to use against you just like McCain did the ad congratulating Obama on his nomination while Obama went on the attack against McCain. Sometimes you have to answer what fits the situation not what you are thinking inside like you have got to be kidding or no way.
Think this was a joke on McCain’s part. Telling Barry it’s over buddy I’ll throw you a small job for trying.
“Governor Schwarzenegger has made the service czar a cabinet-level appointment,” Stengel said. “Would you, as president, do the same and would you name Senator Obama to your cabinet for National Service?” McCain paused for a beat before replying with a smile: “Yes!”
Relax. There’s no such cabinet post with the President. We have no Secretary of National Service. So it was a joke on McCain’s part. It was a great answer, I thought.
