Sarah Palin Defends Experience, Takes Hard Line Approach on National Security
Republican VP Candidate Speaks with ABC News' Charlie Gibson in Exclusive Interview
By RUSSELL GOLDMAN
Sept. 11, 2008
On the anniversary of the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history, Gov. Sarah Palin took a hard-line approach on national security and said that war with Russia may be necessary if that nation invades another country.
In her first of three interviews with ABC News's Charles Gibson and the only interview since being picked by Sen. John McCain as his Republican vice presidential nominee, Palin categorized the Russian invasion of Georgia as "unacceptable" and warned of the threats from Islamic terrorists and a nuclear Iran.
The Governor advocated the accession of Georgia and Ukraine into NATO.
When asked by Gibson if under the NATO treaty, the U.S. would have to go to war if Russia again invaded Georgia, Palin responded: "Perhaps so. I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you're going to be expected to be called upon and help.
"And we've got to keep an eye on Russia. For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable," she told ABC News' Charles Gibson in an exclusive interview.

I hope his condescending (I think your stupid & unqualified) attitude comes back to bite him. He would NEVER ask those same questions in thae same way to obama.
That was not a whiff. We are currently working very hard to bring Georgia into the NATO fold. That very fact is what prompted Russia to invade. They are trying to intimidate all the other former soviet block nations from allying with NATO.
I'm not so sure Charlie knew what it was either. I'm not entirely sure the libs know what it is. They presume it it preemptive war but that is not what Iraq was.
I was watching Charlies’s body language. His foot was making a circle. I think he was a little intimadated by her in a way. His body language revealed that he was attracted to her. Just my opinion. lol
What a woman!!!
O-bully is no doubt wetting his pants. She’s more manly than he could ever dream.
Actually read some story that is now comparing O-dummy with Todd Palin. Talk about ‘shooting down’ LOLOLOL
Mr. Erudite? ha ha ha ha.........against a real man, who is loving enough to be mr. mom. No contest. IMO
Can someone point to another interview Charlie conducted in the same manner?

Charles Gibson Interviews Barack Obama
Obama didn’t even know that Russia has a veto position as a Permanent member of the UN Security Council... and they think they’ve got a gotcha’ here?
Gov. Palin’s answer is firm, direct, and correct.
To people who are pro-American.
For lefties, these answers appear fierce (even warmongering), unclear (she can’t really mean that, there must be some nuance we don’t understand) and wrong*.
*For leftist appeaseniks “Go to the UN” is the only acceptable answer to these types of questions.)
“His foot was making a circle. “
Caught that! Smarmy, jmo.
I wonder if 0bama will start comparing his record with Todd's. Maybe he could call him sort of animal as well.
Obama is already comparing himself to Gov. Palin, and coming across as the weaker candidate.
He might try to compare himself to Todd Palin thinking that he can win that one, but I think Obama probably still has less experience...
Highbrow? He came across as a smug SOB asking rapid fire questions he'd think twice to ask Hillary or Obama -- the candidates seeking the top slot, not VP.
When he said she was confusing him with her blizzard of words I thought I'd puke. He was terribly condescending and I wonder why they agreed to the interview with ABC. I suppose it's because they're the least obvious of the 3 evening news casters but just as vicious.
Read some of the comments and a lot are quite hateful. But, what would one expect on an ABC site? Sarah rocks!
Just compared his demeanor and softball questions during the Zero interview.
It is night and day. Chuck must be bipolar ;-)
Just see how long it takes for that talking point to hit the airwaves. No later than 7 PM Eastern Time, you can bet.
Check the comments and that is what many lefties are already saying.
You got it right, redk.
Its all about holding serve at this point.
And remember, the best spin they’ve had in recent weeks is Jesus was a community organizer, so I’m not too worried about what will be said.
I agree, there was no blizzard of words. And I’ve never seen friendly Charlie like that. Not himself at all. He’s the one liberal, a little like Tony Snow (may he RIP), who could go after somebody with a smile and no hard feelings after. I kind of doubt she’s going to have much to say to him in the future. He should mind his ps and qs because she’s going to be around for a long, long time.
Is that normal, or was that the biggest hack job of selective editing I have ever seen! They cut her off answers mid-sentence many times.
That was a we-control-what-you-see atrocity! They wouldn’t dare do that to one of Zer0bama’s stoogelike stutterfest answers.
But from what I did see, I thought she did really well. I hope the McPalin camp negotiated for the right to show the clips unedited should they choose. I’d like to see the full interview or at least read the full transcript.
