Sarah Palin Defends Experience, Takes Hard Line Approach on National Security
Republican VP Candidate Speaks with ABC News' Charlie Gibson in Exclusive Interview
By RUSSELL GOLDMAN
Sept. 11, 2008
On the anniversary of the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history, Gov. Sarah Palin took a hard-line approach on national security and said that war with Russia may be necessary if that nation invades another country.
In her first of three interviews with ABC News's Charles Gibson and the only interview since being picked by Sen. John McCain as his Republican vice presidential nominee, Palin categorized the Russian invasion of Georgia as "unacceptable" and warned of the threats from Islamic terrorists and a nuclear Iran.
The Governor advocated the accession of Georgia and Ukraine into NATO.
When asked by Gibson if under the NATO treaty, the U.S. would have to go to war if Russia again invaded Georgia, Palin responded: "Perhaps so. I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you're going to be expected to be called upon and help.
"And we've got to keep an eye on Russia. For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable," she told ABC News' Charles Gibson in an exclusive interview.

“I just noticed an edit...”
DITTO! They cut her answer.
Let’s not whine people....this is a good thing. I want my VP tested and grilled....I only wish OBAMA would have to answer the same questions! Especially on his LACK of experience and LACK of foreign policy...
I saw 2-3 edit chops
Good.... not one sign of weakness. Sarah lost nothing here. She actually showed she can handle a prick interviewer well.
Sigh of relief for me and another couple of bump points in the polls for Mac/Palin. People saw a tough woman. Nice.
Is this how this guy interviews? It’s like boom boom booom booom rapid fire questions...
Anyways Sarah did great.
Total editing done....cutting her answers out, leaving her answers short and not complete.
I don't think 0bama has ever been ASKED these questions!
and yet, she still sounded GREAT !
Then go on TV and announce, "...and I for one welcome our new Russian overlords."
Maybe Joe Biden can plagiarize this line?
"Ladies and gentlemen, our course is clear. The time has come to knuckle under. To get down on all fours and really lick boot. Give our alien masters whatever they want..." - President McNeal, Futurama
I think every answer has been cut.
Here is a transcript of the excerpts; (don’t know what was Edited out)

Can a woman be a warmonger?
And that's a bad thing??
I don’t have a problem with Charlie’s questions. She is doing a great job. I wouldn’t have wanted softball questions. I have great faith in her ability to handle whatever they throw at her.
America has faced great challenges from its beginning, and from that time to this, its leaders have acknowledged the role of Divine Providence in times of decision and crisis. Much as the Far Left likes to denigrate President Bush, and now Sarah Palin, for their expressions of faith, perhaps they might like to visit here to hear and read the Dem's own FDR, as he led Americans in prayer on that historic June day in 1944.
Then, if they wished to expand the boundaries of their provincial thinking a bit further, perhaps these words might help:
"In this situation of this Assembly, groping as it were in the dark to find political truth, and scarce able to distinguish it when presented to us, how has it happened, Sir, that we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of lights to illuminate our understandings? In the beginning of the Contest with G. Britain, when we were sensible of danger we had daily prayer in this room for the divine protection.- Our prayers, Sir, were heard, & they were graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a superintending providence in our favor. To that kind providence we owe this happy opportunity of consulting in peace on the means of establishing our future national felicity. And have we now forgotten that powerful friend? or do we imagine that we no longer need his assistance? I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth- that God Governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings, that except the Lord build the House they labour in vain that build it. I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better, than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall become a reproach and bye word down to future ages. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing Governments by Human wisdom and leave it to chance, war and conquest." -----------Benjamin Franklin, at the Constitutional Convention, 1787
Also, from that favorite of the Far Left and their minions (when they quote his "separation of church and state" phrase), Thomas Jefferson:
"I shall need the favor of the Being in whose hands we are, Who led our forefathers . . . from their native land, and planted them in a country flowing with all the necessaries and comforts of life; Who has covered our infancy with His providence, and our riper years with His wisdom and power . . . I ask you to join with me in supplication, that He will so enlighten the minds of your servants, guide their councils, and prosper their measure, that whatsoever they do shall result in your good, and shall secure to you peace, friendship, and approbation of all nations." ---Thomas Jefferson, Second Inaugural as President of the United States of America
The answers would be the same as they are with mussel loading questions....Um-mm, ahhhh, stutter, then the reciting of "War and Peace" without an answer.
All Obama has done is talk about lipstick....maybe his is a genius.
This is a good wake up call for those who thought Charlie ‘pinky ring’ Gibson was fair. You’ve never seen him day in and day out because he may not make headlines as Couric or Williams, but he is from the same cloth!
Wake up call!
Yes, she sounds strong, conservative and honest.
Did she say my muslim faith yet?....waiting for good ole charlie to correct her answers....
