PALIN'S BOOK-BANNING EFFORTS, REDUX.... Here's what we know about Sarah Palin's interest in banning books. Time reported last week that Palin asked the Wasilla librarian, Mary Ellen Baker, about the process for banning library books. Baker was reportedly "aghast" at the question. Soon after taking office, Palin, according to a New York Times report, fired Baker, and news reports from the time indicate that Palin thought Baker hadn't done enough to give her "full support" to the mayor.
Palin reversed course on Baker's dismissal after a local outcry, and later said the discussions about banning books were "rhetorical."
Yesterday, ABC News' Brian Ross moved the ball forward a bit, with an interesting report.
Ross emphasized an angle I previously hadn't heard much about. Palin was elected mayor thanks in large part to the strong backing of her church, the Wasilla Assembly of God, which, right around the time Palin took office, "began to focus on certain books available in local stores and in the town library, including one called 'Go Ask Alice,' and another one written by a local pastor, Howard Bess, called 'Pastor, I am Gay.'"
Palin became mayor, her church was interested in censorship, and soon after, Palin asked a "rhetorical" question about how books might be excluded from the public library. When the librarian resisted, she was, at least initially, fired.
The line from the McCain campaign has been that Palin never had any interest whatsoever in banning library books. That seems increasingly difficult to believe.

“But now that a Republican has a pregnant Teenager, we dont dare question what type of values shes teaching her kids.”
Perhaps your mother should have taught you better Christian values.
Possibly, your father could have taught you better common sense and logic.
Anybody who believes that a youth will act exactly as they are taught lacks common sense. A person who would make accusations about another person’s values based on such a little glimpse into their life, could be served by opening ub a Bible a little more diligently.
“When the librarian resisted, she was, at least initially, fired.”
The librarian openly supported Palin’s opponent in the election for Mayor.

There’s a whole lot of other freepers out there agree with me. Oh wait, no, none of those kids had a mom who was a republican running for national office, those parents are bad, but ours are good.
“Oh wait, no, none of those kids had a mom who was a republican running for national office, those parents are bad, but ours are good.”
Again, your father should have taught you better logic and common sense. Teen pregnancy is not a good thing.
Where you fail miserably in your analysis is in regard to facts. The facts are that most teen pregnancy comes from:
1. other teen moms
2. single mothers
3. people caught in severely low poverty SES
4. Govt dependency also expounds the problem.
If you think that we who are in traditional families are immune from teen pregnancy you are lacking in the ability to comprehend. Teenagers do stupid things and there is little a parent can do to stop them, barring lockup 6 of the teenage years.
Honestly, your parents and teachers failed you.
But I do believe your post deserves a response. So here it is:
Teens have one foot in the adult world and one foot in the child's world. They're still developing, and their minds are incapable of grasping the unforgiving nature of hard logic. In other words, they make mistakes. And they act irresponsibly and do irresponsible things -- regardless of how well they may have been raised.
You, however, seem to be unaware of this. You also question the values that this teenage girl was instilled with.
On what evidence do you make this judgment? Are the Palins unlike all other human beings? Should a different standard apply to them?
An unmarried pregnant teenager is usually enough evidence that the parents were spending their time on other things. But I guess Teen Pregnancy is OK now in Freeperland.
No, my parents and teachers did a good job, because I was able to avoid having a child at 17.
You don’t address any of the logic.
You just repeat an attack without merit.
You are the definition of insanity...repeating your mantra.
Your mother and your father...your problem.
My last post to you. You’ve found your “vitamin” to not vote for McCain....hooray go vote for the fringe candidate you would have voted for anyway.
Hey, bud we don’t need you...the computers already have the fringies modeled in.
Why???
The more "garbage" the lefts are trying to dig up, the better, the American people are not that dumb. Their "dirty" playbook will get our side out in droves comes November!!!
CBS, the MSM and moonbats everywhere still pretend that they don't know the difference between censorship and voluntary restrictions by the readers.
Libraries all have limited budgets, and criticizing buying 20 copies of "Sally has Two Mommies", and no copies of "Present at the Creation", is simply managing idiots...
With rare exceptions (which I do NOT support), people are free to buy any book they choose.
Expecting the taxpayer to buy crap for them is not censorship; it's common sense.
Reagan speaks out against attacks on Palin (sort of lol)

It’s not a very difficult thing
You either think teen pregnancy is a good thing or you think it’s a bad thing. You either think society should be responsible or the parents.
The Only reason why the DUmmies are criticizing Palin is because she’s a republican. The only reason why we are support Palin is because she’s a republican.
For the last 8 years conservatives held their nose as Bush and the Republican congress ran up spending, ran up deficits and abandoned every conservative principle for the chance at more power. As a true lifelong conservative I’m saying “enough.”
If the Republicans want my vote, they are going to have to get back to conservative principles.
Spoken like a true pervert.
It's quite a leap to go from questioning the use of a library's limited budget to "other people's" reading habits.
You need to get a life.
Will bookstores only sell to libraries where you live?
Really? Why?
Maybe if Palin spent enough time with her family as she did butting into other peoples reading habits, maybe her kid would have been able to avoid getting pregnant in the first place...
Do you contend that the Palins were neglectful parents, or is your position that women shouldn't be employed outside the home?
This has nothing to do with support of teenage pregnancy. You are just like the MSM — assuming that a teenage girl who makes a mistake and actually does the RIGHT thing is to somehow be vilified. You show absolutely NO understanding of Christian values and morals whatsoever.
Peddle your accusations about FReepers abandoning their principles elsewhere. God forbid you ever have your own children, and that they ever make a mistake - the way you make it sound you would rather abandon them instead of helping them deal with the consequences of their actions. You are holding a parent responsible for every single action that a near-adult child is making. Were you never a teenager? Have you NEVER made a mistake in your life?
As God-fearing, Christian parents we try to teach our kids the proper path, but no person is perfect - far from it. At some point out children go out into the world and make their own decisions - sometimes with disastrous results despite having the BEST most LOVING and morally instructive parents in the world. It is then our responsibility to support them so that they can deal with the consequences in an appropriate way, and that is EXACTLY what the Palin family is doing. If you can’t see that then I feel sorry for you...
HOWEVER, let us get back to the REAL topic at hand here shall we? You have assumed, and made statements to the effect that the libelous accusations against Palin about book banning are the truth. These libelous accusations have been repeatedly debunked not only on this thread already, but by a large number of MSM news agencies, as well as the librarian in question HERSELF. Why have you chosen to ignore these FACTS and instead use these lies to further your agenda of vilifying FReepers, and conservatives in general.
I have serious doubts that you are even a conservative, because in reading your posts you sound more like a sly liberal agitator. Your history shows that your comments are thinly veiled attacks not only against the GOP and Republicans, but against Conservatives in general. There is an obvious tone of sarcasm in all of your posts, and you just can’t resist getting a jab in against your “fellow” Conservatives.
You may be fooling some people with your tripe, but count me out of that number... As I said before — go back to DU. I can tell sarcasm and agitprop when I see it. Others may not wish to confront these things, but I for one am not afraid to call it as I see it... You are nothing more than a troll.
Every time a lefty attempts to tell me how consevatives think, I'm reminded of many conversations with my daughter. She wasn't very gifted at telling me what I thought, either.
