THE GOVERNMENT KNOWS BEST

Here's our "government knows best" quote of the day. This comes from Dr. Tim Johnson, ABC's medical editor, commenting on John McCain's healthcare plan.

"The idea that individuals are going to have enough knowledge and enough savvy and enough insight and, frankly, enough guts to make choices all by themselves is pretty much a pipe dream."

CONSIDERING THAT MENTALITY ...

Let's take a jump across the pond to Great Britain and its universal healthcare program.

One half of primary care doctors are accused of ignoring National Health Service guidelines that say morbidly obese patients should have stomach surgery to reduce their appetite. In other words, the government wants to force doctors to do surgery on morbidly obese patients.

The president of the British Obesity Surgery Society says that he will consider taking his case to court in order to force the NHS (taxpayers) to fund the surgeries.

Dr. Tim sounds like a real piece of moron.

"Government-run health care: because, you ENJOY your little trips to the DMV?"

Wow. That comment is sad and scary at the same time. Is this how the elitists think? That Americans are stupid and helpless?

Just speaking financially, it would probably be less expensive, in the long run, to perform gastric bypass on any morbidly obese person who wants it. (I know that’s a terribly contructed sentence!)

Of course I’m not well enough informed. That’s why I consult my doctor.
What I don’t need is some government crat in the middle of it.

We go to doctors because they’re the well-informed ones. And I’m well-informed enough to determine whether a doctor is helping or hurting me.

But thanks, Dr. Timothy Johnson. It’s pretty clear that my decisions need to be made by experts like you. Why, it’s a wonder I’m even alive today, given the number of years I’ve been taking care of myself without your advice.

Not really. They usually drop dead when their aorta explodes, requiring no prolonged, expensive health are, just a little extra gas at the crematorium.
