A North Sacramento man shot and killed an armed intruder early Tuesday as his pregnant wife and children awoke in terror from the attack. The man, whom police did not identify, told police that two men had tried to break into his home just after midnight in the 800 block of Carmelita Avenue off Rio Linda Boulevard.
The resident, who had no telephone, pleaded with neighbors to alert police after the shooting, neighbors said. A neighbor who provided refuge for the resident and his family after the attack recounted what the man told him. The resident heard scuffling and banging on his door, said Robert Jerome, the neighbor. Looking through a peephole, the resident saw a man holding a .22 caliber pump-action rifle, Jerome said. By the time the man got his shotgun, the intruders had partially opened the door, the resident told Jerome and police.
The resident fired once through the gap in the doorway, striking a 19-year-old Sacramento man, police said. The other suspect or suspects fled, but the 19-year-old, dropped the gun from his hand, staggered into the cul de sac before collapsing dead, the resident told the neighbor and police.

The last mentality I will ever fully understand is that of a burglar or a drug addict.
I don’t. My husband and I exclusively use cell phones. (besides, I can’t get the dogs to answer the phone when we’re not home.) :)
I was taught at a very early age that I had to work to get what I wanted. The simple stuff.
Make your bed when you get out of it and you can ride your bike today. Want a TV in your room, earn it by cutting lawns and washing cars because one sure isn’t going to appear out of the air. That’s what taught me to read the classifieds for the used stuff. LOL
I wish I could explain it better, but the fact is that its not 'sin', it is physical, spritual and mental sickness...

If you are referring to pattern spread: Not ... at ... close ... range.
Waiting in ambush? Premeditateidley (is that a word?) /s. Every one should learn the laws of their state on self defence, they vary wildly. Prosecutions vary by county as well. I'm sure some one will suggest a website if they haven't already. In life or death I'll choose my life and his death at 100 yards if I feel justifiably threatened.
In CA and liberal east coast states it's probably better from a legal point of view to wait until the perps are inside the house before firing on them, but it's still better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6 even in those liberal hellholes.
Here in GA we have a Castle Doctrine law now that allows the use of deadly force to stop an intruder before he gets into your home if you have reason to believe that he intends to harm you or anyone in your house. And furthermore, he can't sue you if you injure him, nor can his family sue you if he dies. A very good law IMHO.
I live in Oakland, CA and every day I go to the Safeway, I see welfare mothers and families with children paying wiht food stamps. I do not fault them for feeding their children, but when did it become OK to have society pay for your irresponsible sex life?
Who pays for their HUD Section 8 voucher, who paid for the pre-natal care, the delivery, the ongoing healthcare of the baby and mom? Who pays for the mother’s SSI? Who pays for the baby’s daycare? Who pays for the mother’s tuition and books? Who pays for the baby’s schooling? Who pays for when he commits a crime and is in jail at 15?
You and me.
The odd part is that Government does not address this.
IF you are referring to the need for precise shot placement as opposed to using a pistol of any caliber, I think you are 100% correct as long as the hit you land with the shottie is still within 12 inches of the torso of the perp. What I'm trying to say here is that a poorly placed shot with a 12 ga is probably better than a marginal center of mass hit with any caliber handgun, as long as the shottie hits within 12 inches of the torso anywhere on the target. So a shotgun wound inside the upper thigh trumps a belly wound with a 45 ACP.... period.
The intruder was armed. The fact they forced the door open showed intent. That'd have been enough for me to resort to the same end.
Once a shot is fired, especially if not by one of the perps, the almost universal tendency is for the other perps to run. They are not in it to prove their skill with guns or their courage in the face of gunfire. They are there to grab some goodies and run. Even if they have come on a mission of murder, if the target gets off the first or even the second shot the perps will run. They are there to kill not to take a chance on being killed. Being shot at utterly changes the mental equation. He/they do not expect that or they would choose a different target.
Good point.
That was the old paradigm. The new paradigm is for thugs to volunteer for military service and then volunteer for combat duty. They'll behave themselves while in the military in order to get the all important training and more important on the job experience so they can return to the 'hood and teach it to their homies or worse form squads of combat experienced thugs to prey upon their victims. So far this has become a real issue in California and New Jersey IIRC. I've even seen some FR threads on the phenomena. You cap a round at a group like this and one or two will return fire to fix your position while the rest flank you and take you out. There was a shooting at a gas station in California about 18 months ago that reported this exact tactic when the police responded to the silent alarm of a robbery in progress. The first pair of responding officers was killed in exactly this manner.
