AIRFAX, Va. - Republican presidential nominee John McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, equated lawmakers' requests for funding for special projects with corruption on Wednesday even though Palin herself has requested nearly $200 million in so-called "earmarks" this year.

“Wasilla obtained 14 earmarks, totaling $27 million, between 2000-2003, according to Taxpayers for Common Sense.”

JENNIFER LOVEN BARF ALERT!
Just because, as Governor, Sarah Palin had to play the only game in town - earmarks - to protect the interests of her State does NOT mean that she had or has an interest in maintaining “earmarks”.
This is a criticism with absoluely no substance.
Obviously Jennifer Loven is in the pocket or the DNC and the Obama Campaign and is printing this dirt about Sarah.
Heh. Like anyone believes the AP’s smears about Sarah anymore.
Keep it up, schmucks.
Ah yes, Jennifer Loven. Husband was an adviser to John Kerry’s campaign.
They’re a balance couple: she’s far left, he is extreme left. So you have a choice.
Governors and Mayors may request Federal Funding, but only Senators and Congresssional Representatives can place “Earmarks” in bills. Take a look and Bidens and Obamas earmarks and then take a look at Mc Cains (Zero).
Jennifer Loven Obama... and looking hypocritical while doing so.
If Congress merely taxed us and never spen any of our money on the things we need, that would be just as bad as spending it on things we don't.
Until they can make that simple and signal distinction, and prove that the funds Sarah sought were for frivilous, wasteful causes (and frankly, the thought strains credulity), they're just dumping more gasoline on the flame of our need for such a leader as Sarah Palin.
I'll bet she didn't get over 80% approval ratings by screwing Alaskans with D.C.'s version of business as usual. There has to be some explanation for the disconnect between her 80%+ approval ratings and Congress' 9%... don't you figure?
Idiot boneheads. Keep it up... she'll win in a landslide.

Until they can make that single and signal distinction, and prove that the funds Sarah sought were for frivilous, wasteful causes (and frankly, the thought strains ALL credulity and evidence to the contrary), they're just dumping more gasoline on the flame of America's need for such a leader as Sarah Palin.

Governors DO NOT request “earmarks” they are mixing the two things, Governors can make funding requests, it is up to the State Delegation to seek to fund them.
How the State Delegation tries to fund the requests is solely up to them, it’s not as if Sarah is sitting in Budget Cmte meeting dropping these things into bills.
Y’know its Congress that actually has to FUND the earmarks. And Change-Boy & Plugs voted for just about all of ‘em. Not McCain though.
If you play football and think a field goal should be 2 points instead of 3 points, you wait until you are football commisioner and change the rule. You would not refuse the point because you don’t believe in it. The argument that you took the 3 points when you were playing so you can’t be against it now is silly!
These jackasses are now trying to convince us that all money coming to Alaska is an earmark. It’s not. Every state pays the federal gasoline tax, which is supposed to go into the Federal Highway Trust Fund (Ha!). This money is then supposed to go to the states for federal highway construction. The bridge to nowhere was from these funds. Just because Sarah didn’t want to build the bridge doesn’t mean that Alaska shouldn’t get money from the trust fund. Incidentally, they spent more money repairing the “Big Dig” than this bridge would ever have cost.
As usual, the details tell a much more relevant tale. Most of that money is for continuing projects from earlier earmarks. Palin requested all of four new earmarks. She has lowered earmarks from $700 million a year by her predecessor. And she has imposed a standard that there must be a complelling federal interest ... in a state where the fedgov owns 80 percent of the land, acreage almost twice the size of Texas.
Biden has requested $330 Million. When you divide the amount of requested $$ by population of the state, Joe Biden has requested 30% more earmarks per person in FY 2009 than Sarah Palin
