McCain/Palin Visiting YOUR Area? Here Is How To Reach Them on Elusive "Immigration" Issue (IDEA)
AmericanInTokyo's brain ^ | 10 September 2008 | AmericanInTokyo

Posted on 09/10/2008 6:59:04 PM PDT by AmericanInTokyo

John and Sarah are making the rounds.

Good for them!

However a minor irritation still exists. That is, because out of fear of Obama, probably the great majority of FR (including founder) now support this team--and yet we still cannot get clear discussions on Borders/Immigration/Amnesty out of Team McCain/Palin) though we know exactly what "Yes We Can" Obama/Biden will do).

After thinking about what will and will not work, I have two plans for those who are very worried about our country over Illegal Immigration (some 90% here on FR and 80% of our countrymen) yet want to convey this to the McCain/Palin team and also engage in the Great Communicator's brilliant maxim Trust, but Verify

PLAN B

1) Bring Signs to Rallies, simply saying "NO AMNESTY" or "BUILD THE FENCE", along with McCain/Palin signs.

These signs are not a contradiction of the 2008 GOP Platform. They are not racist. They also express the views of nearly all of us here. And there are also other handmade signs at rallies allowed.

If and when the signs are disallowed (this will tell you something right off the bat) I recommend reversion to Plan "A".

PLAN A

If you hear of a major McCain/Palin campaign event in your area on FR or elsewhere, it will no doubt be attended by major local GOP officials in your area. In fact, hundreds of GOP Congressmen are begging the RNC to send Sarah Palin to their districts.

These local bigwigs in the reception line will be Congressmen, maybe a Senator, no doubt county commissioners, mayors, and the like.

Identify those local GOP officials who are supportive of strong borders in your area (the area to be barnstormed by Team Mccain/Palin) whom you believe will go to these events, flood their offices with calls in advance, and ask that they personally ask Mr. McCain and Ms. Palin to adhere to the American people's wishes on Amnesty, and to the wishes of the people of their district. It might be also opportune for us, though them (who are WE, anyway, at these rallies?... just faceless sign wavers?) to informally ascertain and confirm through our local power elites Gov. Palin on this CRITICAL ISSUE.

This can be an effective and convenient, undodgeable/unduckable Immigration grassroots lobby on McCain/Palin across this land for the next eight weeks going through our local people who have indeed "heard the message".

It has the effect of:

a) letting them hear this issue EVERYWHERE THEY GO--in a nice way

b) getting the nationwide pro-Borders National Security lobby machine fine tuned for any kind of Comprehensive Amnesty plan the McCain White House would plan with complicit Senate/House Democrats or wobbling Republicans....this machine can be value-added by NumbersUSA, Alipac members, Minutemen, or Lou Dobbs viewers calling their local reps

c) show these two candidates that they can be supported by the Conservative Base, but that things go both ways and nothing is unconditional.

In short, before going up on stage, John and Sarah will be glad-handing with all the local GOP officials ebullient over their visit to their congressional district. By bubbling up this pressure from below on Illegal Immigration, we keep pressure on McCain/Palin. No Open Borders type GOP person can accuse us of being "disruptive".

And, with a confidence level established that McCain/Palin would have heard from the base over and over in state after state, we will secure a better chance they will not try this Amnesty business on us again...and people can vote for this ticket in even more confidence.

When word goes out of a McCain or Palin rally on FR, PING THE IMMIGRATION LISTS. Freepers, Eagles UP! At ONCE get on the phone to your local GOP representative and ask that they put in a strong word on this issue, even if it is just a handshake on the podium, or at the local airport upon arrival or departure. Repeating this over and over and over and over across this Great Land will have a great effect IMHO. Required follow up: After all the hoopla, the satellite dishes are down, and team McCain/Palin has moved on to the next stop, get back to your local officials and a) ascertain they got the message out, and b) ask what kind of response they may have gotten in return. We are developing a national case here, folks, if push comes to shove in 2009 or 2010.

Which FR conservative who cares about our Borders can truly take issue with this kind of classic, grassroots, Freeper Activism. ??

I have heard Sen McCain say twice that the amnesty issue will not be visited until we secure our borders. He even said that at whatever hispanic convention he attended. And of course, it wasnt a popular answer. But he does seem sincere. Border security seems to be a huge issue with Sen McCain. As far as amnesty is concerned I am sure he favors some sort of policy. I dont like it, but I can live with it for now, as with all the law suits etc. I dont see the borders being secure anytime in the near future. I think protesting at his rallys would only draw negative attention from the media and could further hurt Sen McCain with the hispanic vote. That’s definately not what we need right now.

Thank you for your input.

And welcome to FR. I see you joined just FOUR DAYS AGO. Feel free to ask me anything via Freepmail. I have been here Nine years.

This thread will stay on the issue of reaching our local representatives in the manner I suggested.

We can and will debate on another thread, your immigration proposal. I will be happy to establish that on an new thread if you would like.

Now back to the topic and strategy which I proposed here.

Sen. McCain has said a number of times that he wants to go to Washington as POTUS to represent the people. Well, okay Senator, this is an across the board issue with THE PEOPLE, now do your duty and make a stand with us!

You’ve been in the Senate how long now? Weren’t you elected by your fellow Arizonans to represent them? Last I heard there was a huge majority that DO NOT WANT AMNESTY, so where have you been sir??

I will vote for you ONLY because of Gov. Palin who apparently strives to do the right thing, well that and I just can’t stand the thought of a Marxist as POTUS. Try being a “maverick” and backing the people up on this issue, that would really be different since no one else is...

Thank you for going with my "PLAN A" then. This is the essence of Freeper Activism.

I am glad we have you aboard on this grassroots "From the People/From the Heart" outreach to McCain and Palin through our local representatives. This was in fact the essence of Gov. Palin's speech. Shaking up D.C. and listening to the people. On Amnesty, DC has NOT been listening, and believe me, they will start in on it again once our guard is dropped.

Thanks again for the vote of confidence.

>>I have heard Sen McCain say twice that the amnesty issue will not be visited until we secure our borders.<<

I don’t trust McC on immigration. He still refuses to admit that last year’s amnesty bill he pushed was “amnesty.”

And what does “secure the border” mean to McC? If it’s like last year, it will be a promise to secure the border while granting instant amnesty. Or maybe he means that the 4 border governors (2 RINOs and 2 Dems) will “certify” that “the border is secure.”

In the first Star Wars movies, they left the 2 robots alone in a room in the Death Star. C3PO asked, what they should do if the storm troopers came back. Han Solo told him, “Lock the doors. And hope they don’t have blasters.” C3PO replied, “That is not very reassuring.”

That calls for specificity then in both the questions/concerns our local GOP officials receiving John and Sarah out on the hustings deliver to them, and specificity needed in the replies. Believe me, there IS time to talk this over for three or four minutes backstage in the holding area or out to great an arriving campaign plane and chit chat small talk with the Sen and Gov. before or after these rallies. I for one thing our local GOP reps (good ones at least) will perform this service for us.

No matter how disappointed I am about McCain’s position on immigration, your plea will fall on many deaf ears such as mine because we’ve got a hardcore Socialist who could become President. Third party is suicide this election so feel free to flail your arms all you want but all you are proposing is giving more ammunition to the liberal media when we are in the homestretch. No thanks.

Thank you.

We do value your opinion. It being that of the minority here, it is still important to have yours aired, and I think you for participating and sharing, in eloquence. Good luck.

Plan A is a great idea, Plan B just worried me.
Securing our borders is crucial and hell no to amnesty.
I’m sure it will be brought up again in the future.

we want them to hear it, loud and clear. what better way than having to travel to Phoenix, or Anchorage, or DC for those two, than to let them both hear it when they come to our communities and are out asking for our votes, money and support. it is a reasonable give-and-take. it is polite but firm. there has to be NO DOUBT on this Amnesty of Millions on our Soil, and continued open, porous borders issue as we go into 2009. as long as Juan Hernandez is on campaign staff, we need to counterbalance this.

I like the way you think. But do you really think they need that long to pack up and get out?

Welcome to FR, BTW.

I agree that I’m not happy with McCain’s position on amnesty, but as another FReeper stated, we can deal with that later.

I don’t see any option that would give us what we want to deal with illegal immigration, but I certainly know that I do NOT want obama in the White House. If it means voting for McCain to be president for the time being, so be it.

There’s always the chance that he might not make it through all four years to begin with, and Palin will be primed to run for president in 2012. I think she could win against Hillary then and that’s important because I strongly suspect that the Dems are going to have a female on the ticket for the next election, whether it’s her or not.

So, I’m voting the Palin/McCain ticket. ;)

“...give them 30 days to leave then offer a $1000. bounty for each 1 turned into ICE”

Er, ah... Do you mean “ICE” as in Immigration Customs Enforcement, or do you mean “ICE” as in assuming room temperature, ie: “cold as”?

I think you are sincere.

I do question the timing.

The campaign has been revitalized by Sarah.

Any video will be used by ABC,CBS,NBC,MSNBC,and CNN to create an image of division within the base.

Images, over, and over, with talking heads commenting on her failure to heal the RNC. While repeating, racism, division, immigration to one another.

Handing ammunition to adversaries helps the ticket how?
