To borrow a meme from the Obama camp...
Jesus was outside the mainstream, so was Columbus, Copernicus and Lincoln.
As a matter of fact, many of histoy’s significant events are due to people once thought of as outside the mainstream.
Sarah should wear it as a badge of honor...

That tremendous boob, Jeffrey Toobin had the same spin, saying "while most people agree with her about drilling, her global warming views are way outside the mainstream."
CLUE you dip$%^&: 31,000---that THIRTY-ONE THOUSAND scientists signed a petition saying they didn't think global warming, if it even existed, was man made. Who'se outside the mainstream now?

We interviewed Professor Goofy and asked what CNN”s record is on individual freedom. “Abysmal,” he answered.
“In addition to CNN”s frightening lack of qualification to be a news outlet (much less reporting the news) in the United States, CNN is a Marxist, anti-freedom, purse-swinging, pro-totalitarian, left-wing Stalinist beer hall thug organization that wants to look for rubbers on cucumbers in my pants,” Goofy said.
“They’re goofy.”

Two segments on Tuesdays Election Center program, which were promoted by host Campbell Brown as having no bias, no bull, actually tried to paint Republican vice-presidential pick Sarah Palin as having a "very extreme" and "outside-the-mainstream" viewpoint on environmental issues, since on the issue of global warming, shes "not one... who would attribute it to being man-made."I wonder if Campbell Brown realizes that CNN is "Outside-the-Mainstream." He is not an expert in climate I am sure. If he were capable of scientific thought he would know that there are few absolutes. If he had a brain he would know there are many questions about whether global warming is manmade, versus natural climate variation. There is more evidence that global warming is caused by the Sun not mankind. There are no SUVs on Mars, Venus, or Jupiter.

At one time the mainstream belief was that the world was flat. Actually, no - that was never a mainstream belief anywhere in recorded history.

Well, I was challenged by your answer to investigate.
And you are correct.
Apparently the scholarship has changed in the years since I learned about Columbus a few decades ago.
It appears that the flat earth story was more of a modern ivenon than historical fact.
The problem Columbus faced was not that the earth was flat and he would fall off, but that contemporary scholars thought that the earth was too large and he would have to travel much farther than expected to reach Asia due to their calculated size of the sphere of the earth.
Good thing the America were in between.
Thanks for the correction.
