Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- With all the hoopla of the Democratic and Republican conventions and the selection of pro-life running mate Sarah Palin, a McCain statement on abortion appears to have gone unnoticed. Glamour magazine indicates John McCain repeated his position that Roe v. Wade should be reversed.
The women's magazine conducted an interview with the presidential hopeful on July 30 and included the abortion-related clip on its web site on August 30.
Asked whether he would "actively seek the demise of Roe v. Wade," McCain confirmed that and said he will not change from that stance.
"So let me make my point clear again. I thought that Roe v. Wade was a bad decision, and I continue to believe that," he told the magazine. "That's my position."
The magazine attempted to ask a follow-up, but McCain interrupted and restated his position again.
"No, no. That's my position. And that will remain my position," he confirmed.
McCain's campaign web site has indicated for many months that the Arizona senator wants to overturn Roe and allow states a chance at legally protecting women and unborn children.
"John McCain believes Roe v. Wade is a flawed decision that must be overturned, and as president he will nominate judges who understand that courts should not be in the business of legislating from the bench," it says.
"Constitutional balance would be restored by the reversal of Roe v. Wade, returning the abortion question to the individual states. The difficult issue of abortion should not be decided by judicial fiat," the McCain campaign site continues.
McCain has stated his support for reversing Roe as far back as November 2006.
McCain appeared on the ABC News program "This Week" and responded to a question from host George Stephanopoulos, saying, " do believe that it's very likely or possible that the Supreme Court should -- could overturn Roe v. Wade, which would then return these decisions to the states, which I support."
In February 2007, McCain restated his position, telling 800 voters at a campaign stop in South Carolina, "I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned."
McCain also said he would only appoint judges for key federal posts and the high court who would strictly interpret the Constitution of the United States and do not legislate from the bench.
If he chooses judges the way he chose Palin, this could really happen.

I agree with his position. I wonder how it will affect votes and “the enthusiasm factor” on both sides.
in Iowa last year alone, more babies were killed than soldiers the entire Iraq war... I don’t see how anybody can see how abortion is a good method of “birth control”. Oh, and Iowa’s planned parenthood now intends to offer no-doctor abortions via RU486.
During the consideration for Roe, one of the judges was chosen (or chose to do it)to find when a fetus became a person. He "agonized" over it, visited Mayo Clinic, and Roe was finally written to be done 1st trimester--splitting hairs on when it is a person. Think it was judge Blackmon.
Even so, the wording of Roe has been contravened by NOW and fellow travelers to mean abortion up to term. Obama wants it AFTER term if the baby survives the abortion attempt.

I think there is a tight rope here that should be carefully navigated. There are many Pro-Choice Republicans that don’t necessarily vote based on a candidates stance on this issue alone.
More Americans die in abortuaries EVERY TWO DAYS than have died in the War on Terror and that INCLUDES the deaths of September 11, 2001.
More Americans die in abortuaries EVERY YEAR than have died in ALL of the wars America has fought COMBINED.
The Supreme Court CREATED law when it decided Roe, with its trimesters.
Beyond their pay grade constitutionally.
Plus the plaintiff “Roe” and her “story” were willfully misrepresented to the judges.
So a decision that was based on a lie, resulted in a law that should never have been accepted, and now 50 million babies are dead, millions of women suffer from post traumatic syndrome, and another 15 million children that would have born to the children already aborted had they lived to child bearing age—well you can see that the cost in incalculable.
How many years has he had in the Senate to sponsor or co-sponsor a bill such as S.3111 (life at conception)? Roe vs. Wade is effectively nullified by this bill as well as a similar one in the house (HR2597 - Paul). Why do we need to wait for decades (if ever) until SCOTUS has the right justices to overturn RvW? Congress could pass S3111 and HR2597 almost immediately, and restrict the appellate jurisdiction of SCOTUS on the issue.
As much as it pains me to admit it McCain’s position is the correct conservative position. If Idaho wants to allow RU-486 or third trimester abortions then it is up to the good people of Idaho to make that decision thru their legislative body. It should not be up to a lifetime appointed out of touch judge in Washington DC to make that choice for them. Truely the overturn Roe VS Wade crew is the pro states rights choice. Those of you that seek to ban any and all abortions may then do so at a state level like our state amendment process here in Florida or through the legislature and those that are in the market for an abortion can vote with their feet to a state that allows it.
Do we trust someone to pick judges who has already stated he will “appoint democrats”? I dont.
Do we trust someone that led the Gang of 14...blocking the appointment of Conservative judges? I dont
You will get liberal judges from McCain.
Obviously a lot of suckers going to waste a vote on McCain
Whose side are you on?

The Supreme Court has been dominated by a pro-Abortion liberal majority for decades. That majority has recently been reduced to a single justice. The next president will likely appoint two Supreme Court Justices. Mr. McCain will work to appoint pro-life justices and this will allow cases to be brought before the court that will allow Roe to be reconsidered. Mr. Obama will subsidize abortion, broaden it's availability (See FOCA) and will appoint two justices who will ensure another 30 years of mass abortions.
The candidates differ sharply on abortion
On the one hand, we have Barack Obama, who is radically pro-abortion with a pro-abortion Veep. His party's platform calls affordable abortions, and he has said that FOCA will be his first legislation he signs. FOCA is designed to remove all barriers to abortion. (Barriers = parental consent, abortionists providing information about adoption, and a ban on federal financing of abortions.) A vote for Obama will ensure 40 million more abortions, and federal funding for these. He also killed the Born Alive Infant protection Act, which was designed to give legal rights to children who survive abortion.
On the other hand, we have John McCain and his staunchly pro-life veep. A vote for McCain is a vote for the ticket that has made a commitment to appointing justices in the mold of Roberts and Alito— both of whom recognize that an unborn child is a human being.
NARAL is a pro-abortion lobbying organization with a PAC that funds pro-abortion campaigns. They summarize Mr. McCain's record on “choice” very clearly and concisely:
http://www.naral.org/elections/statements/mccain.html
Mr. McCain's record is strongly "anit-choice."
We have never been faced with a clearer choice on abortion. Abortion is a death sentence for the child, and a vote for Obama is a vote for another 3 decades of unrestricted abortion. A vote for McCain is a vote to end abortion.
But we don’t need to wait to overturn Roe vs. Wade.
Roe vs. Wade is only a problem because the decision claims that the preborn are not persons.
Congress can declare that the preborn have personhood at conception. They can then restrict the appellate jurisdiction of the Supreme Court. This would need to be done because the Supreme Court does NOT have a pro-life majority, and would likely try to overturn such legislation. This would open the door for the states to outlaw abortion and prosecute abortion “doctors”.
I know that I repeated the jist of my previous post, but your response implied that it wasn’t clear.
John McCain and the Republican establishment have no intention of taking abortion off the table. Abortion as a political issue is a cynical (and murderous) strategy to keep Republicans “on the reservation”.
“A vote for McCain is a vote to end abortion.”
John McCain is pro-abortion. A vote for McCain is a vote for abortion and federal Planned Parenthood funding to continue.
Hussein Obama is pro-abortion. A vote for Hussein Obama is a vote for abortion and federal Planned Parenthood funding to continue.

McCain is winning by being firmly pro-life.
There’s a lesson here, folks...
