More money needed for border fence
LA Times ^ | September 10, 2008

The Bush administration needs an extra $400 million to complete its fence along the country's Southwestern border, and government investigators say that may not be enough to finish construction by the end of this year. To complete the 670-mile fence -- already half-built -- the administration has asked Congress to approve the use of $400 million set aside for other programs, said Jayson Ahern, the deputy commissioner of Customs and Border Protection.

Higher costs of fuel, steel and labor have led to the shortfall, he said. Ahern is scheduled to testify on Capitol Hill today....the Government Accountability Office will tell lawmakers that staffing shortages and problems acquiring land could delay construction beyond the end of this year.

This is what I am thinking. Once there is a new administration in office, I fear this project will slow down.

If they would have built this thing when it was approved instead of delaying and trying the stupid doomed-to-fail “virtual fence” thing we wouldn’t have this problem.

Of course this comes as no surprise. Did anyone really think the .gov was really going to do what they were supposed to?

Actually, the high-tech fence development and the steel-and-cement physical fence project have both been under way at the same time.

We can find hundreds of billions to secure Iraq, something of questionable worth politically, and yet can't come up with several hundred million to secure our southern border, something that would be very popular across the entire country and across party lines? What's wrong with this picture???

Folks, this isn't your daddy's United States.

Does anyone else find it morally repugnant for a President to sell out the interests of the country even as he sends our sons and daughters to die supposedly in the interests of that same country? When Boosh talks about "'mare-kuh" is he refering to the nation created in 1776 or the central province in the NAU of his daddy's new world order?

Thank you for letting me vent. I voted for the man twice. I worked on both campaigns. But, I didn't even want to see Jimmy Carter out of office as much as I want Bush out of the Oval Office and back at "Prairie Chapel Ranch."

Sad to say, I agree. I voted for him twice, too, and admire much that he has done. I thank the Lord every day that he is president, and not Algore or Kerry. That said, his blind eye and deaf ear to our concerns about our border, our sovereignty, our national identity, our language and culture, is doubly painful to me. It’s like no one cares about us, our well being, our best interests — our survival. Everyone else in the world, even people who break our laws, comes first. The Rule of Law is a laughing stock. Congress is just licking its lips at the chance to shut down the fence project come January 20. Very, very sad.

Well said but they have nearly 400 miles (of non-imaginary) work done now and need Congress to PUSH for completion. WE are the pushers of Congress. I know every tax dollar spent keeping aliens out is spent wisely as so much of our government has been led down a primrose path where these “economic refugees” are purposely given a bye while actual terrorists have been taking advantage of it (shave, learn a little Spanish and you, too, can gain access to the Great Satan!)

Slam the door closed and exult in the squealing that erupts from the other side from many of America’s enemies.

It should have been seven years ago to this day.
