McCain camp screwing up by reponding to Pig comment (vanity)
Me

Posted on 09/10/2008 8:10:53 AM PDT by Scythian

I believe is a major mistake by the McCain camp. They could have let the 'Pig' comment go and been endeared even further. But now, they are taking on the victim status and seem small and petty, and as if they are using this as a way to avoid talking about issues. This response is going to cause Obama to take back the lead again in the polls.

I agree that the McCain campaign should not try to make too much of it. “Putting lipstick on a pig” is a common phrase.

Yup, spend one day on outrage, then move on.

Time to let it go. He's been dinged by it, and they need to just mock it and laugh it off now. No need hammering it. Let the media do that. Time to move on.

As the alien Cajun once observed...”when your opponent is drowning, throw the SOB an anvil.”

I think they’ve done enough with this gaffe, but what they did made sense.

Ignore it.

Recall how obama and his camp expressed outrage, accusing his opponents of racism. He did this to his advantage with hillary and he tried to do it with McCain. Now he is at the other end of the stick.

I do not doubt for a second that he meant to associate the old expression with Palin's lipstick comment. The audience ate it up and knew where he was going with his comment before he was done saying it. After he said it, he backed off and complimented Palin's ability to be a parent of five children.

To use one of his expressions, he is throwing a rock and then hiding his hand.

In an incredible yet hilarious act of self-immolation, the big boob call the most popular woman in America a pig.

He’s on the ropes. Keep slugging.

Sarah Palin’s “lipstick” line was the line of the year, only one week ago.

It would take a “willing suspension of disbelief” that this was not said purposefully.

And if it was, that is also a bad sign, as Presidents need to be exact with their words according to the political landscape.

Either Obama intentionally made the remark, or he is a very stupid man.

It’s one or the other.

When you let a punk punch your friend in the face and swagger away sneering, and do nothing about it, you only emolden the punk to think his behavior was acceptable

Obama is a punk- not because he was raised as one- but because this is the black persona he has cultivated for himself

He needs a smack upside the head- let the world see how a punk acts when he is called out on his acts

BTW- an issue of any campaign is character...behavior under pressure and stress...and CIVILITY.

McCain has bent over backwards on the civility thing. Unlike the hustler Messiah, McCain has to make no explanations for his character and ability to act under stress.

Obama should have known better, as the crowd clearly took it as an insult against Palin.

This is the key. To paraphrase another poster on another thread, it wouldn't even matter what Obama intended - because it's what the crowd heard. The crowd heard a slam against Palin and erupted into a standing ovation.

Every liberal/MSM attempt (& even some conservatives) to simply slough this off fails to highlight the crowd's reaction. The very nature of a double entendre is to give you enough cover to back away, but to give the listener something evocative. There's a double purpose there.

If the issue were between McCain and Obama, I might agree. But this is between Palin and Obama, and the more we keep that battle alive, the more Obama looks like a loser for running against our VP.

I agree that this was one of the biggest mistakes by the Mccain/Palin campaign to date. they sound as silly as democrats on this. this is a timeworn phrase of politicians and we can’t suddenly make it a sexist remark. we have too many politically incorrect phrases already. If they had left it alone, Obozo would have overplayed it the next time and made it sexist.

I expect that shows like the Tonight Show, Letterman, the Late Show, the Daily Show et al will ignore it, too.

Or maybe they will make a joke out of it at Palin’s expense.

I think the McCain campaign is right to hit this hard and quick then should back off immediately. This kind of comment by Hussein will really resonate with Hillary! supporters because they saw similar sniping by Hussein in the primaries. The McCain campaign should just make their point (which they have done) and move on.

Their "response" is just giving it legs - so people who might have missed the idiot's comments get to hear them. It's called politics.

If you want a good Obama giving Hillary the finger video, send this one out:

Same deal as the Pig & Fish comments. He knows EXACTLY what he is saying & doing, and so does the crowd.

“I am a government spook, never email me directly, my advice to you is to go off grid now and remain there. I’m not joking.”

That’s a curious about page you have there my FRiend.

It could certainly cause one to question your motives for posting this vanity.
