Barack Obama came under fire from the McCain campaign on Tuesday for backing state legislation which would have armed public school teachers in Illinois - including those who teach students as young as kindergarten - with sex education standards.
"Learning about sex before learning to read?" asks the narrator in a new ad from John McCain. "Barack Obama. Wrong on education. Wrong for your family."
The criticism of Obama on sex education stems from his work in the Illinois state senate on legislation which would have taken the state's entire sex education standards, which related to 6th through 12th grade, and applied them to all of K-12.
The legislation, which was never enacted, included an "opt out" provision for parents. Sex education for kindergarteners first entered the presidential campaign on July 17, 2007 when Obama discussed his views on the topic while appearing before a Planned Parenthood conference in Washington, D.C.

Obama's campaign was asked last year by ABC News to explain what kind of sex education Obama considers "age appropriate" for kindergarteners.
Note: The comments at the end of the article are a hoot! The Pubbies goosed the Donks real good with the new ad.
Either a wise way to spend money or a statement about Marylanders...one way or the other...
This quote is taken from REVOLUTION YOU CAN BELIEVE IN by Melanie Phillips, another article posted here today. If teaching kindergartners sex education is not “capturing the culture and turning it inside out,” I do not know what is. Children are not interested in sexual matters until their hormones begin to prepare them during puberty. In fact, bringing their attention to sex before they are ready may actually damage them emotionally and psychologically because of their concrete thinking. Sex education for five-year-olds helps one group, in my opinion..Pedophiles.
Great pic!
I think that in Maryland they consider kindergarten a tad late to start indoctrination of the wee ones?
Let’s face it this is Kool-Aid Kountry!
I've never seen a Republican campaign so good at discombobulating the press and the Dems both at once.
Reagan did “Morning in America”, but even that didn't take the game to the media like McCain is doing.
Man, the Obamessiah’s loyal flock have really spammed the comments, haven’t they? I had to stop reading them, they were making me sick.
ABC thinks that's going to... help their candidate?
Great graphic, btw.
“Opt out” options are only available during the first year of Marxist social engineering programs. Once instituted the commisars point out that it does no good to unless 100% of the children are indcoctrinated and opt out options are removed.
I am not sure if this ad is good from a factual perspective, but if it costs Hussein votes than I am all for it.
Thanks for posting this...I am confused by one thing:
They refer to “K 6 through 12”. That seems like a strange way to put it. Does that really mean grades 6 through 12 or Kindergarten through grade 6 through grade 12?
Kindergarten for 6yo’s. Some kindergartens start at age 5.
Each class or course in comprehensive sex education offered in any of grades K 6 through 12 shall include instruction on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including the prevention, transmission and spread of HIV AIDS. Nothing in this Section prohibits instruction in sanitation, hygiene or traditional courses in biology.
The strike through the 6 indicates the change in the bill language to expand the program through the kindergarten level. They can whine all they want, but the facts are on McCain's side.
It is shameful and downright perverse," said Burton, "for the McCain campaign to use a bill that was written to protect young children from sexual predators......"
Nice try, but the bulk of the bill language deals with other topics. Obama's response to the questions raised about the bill:
"Nobody's suggesting that kindergartners are going to be getting information about sex in the way that we think about it,'" Obama told the Daily Herald. "'If they ask a teacher 'where do babies come from,' that providing information that the fact is that it's not a stork is probably not an unhealthy thing. Although again, that's going to be determined on a case by case basis by local communities and local school boards."
I don't see anything concerning sexual predators/molestation here. This, like anything else stated by the Obama campaign, doesn't hold up to scrutiny.
“Curious how that ad hasn’t aired in Maryland.
Either a wise way to spend money or a statement about Marylanders...one way or the other...”
I live in Maryland. As do you. Are you implying that I support the sexual indoctrination of children?
It’s his record. Let him defend it.
Learning about sex before learning to read?” asks the narrator in a new ad from John McCain. “Barack Obama. Wrong on education. Wrong for your family.”
ABC considers this a low attack?
WOW they really need to get out of their offices more fequesntly...
I haven't noticed many McCain ads here at all. I don't think the original poster believes that all people from Maryland support the sexual indoctrination of children, but rather he believes, like I do, that McCain even spending half a cent on campaigning in this state is a waste of money.
Hardly.
But with widely-endorsed plans such as the one implemented last year in Montgomery County, can you really say that my supposition is that far off the mark?
Ahh. Now I get it.
