Missile Offense

The Kremlin has been dusting off old Bolshevik intimidation techniques since the U.S. signed a missile defense partnership with Poland last month. The Russian foreign ministry promised that its response "would go beyond diplomacy," and a Russian general mused that this meant its nuclear missiles would have to target Poland. Who would have thought such talk would find an accommodating ear in the U.S. Congress?

That will be the question when Illinois Republican Representative Mark Kirk offers an amendment in the coming days to the Defense Appropriations bill to restore funding for missile defense sites in Poland and the Czech Republic. The money was struck in May by Democrats who justified the cuts by claiming that the Iranian threat was not developing quickly and a deal with Poland hadn't been signed. Now Iran has tried to orbit its first satellite and a deal with Poland is in place, so we'll soon see if House Democrats and Barack Obama change with the new reality.

Even as Polish leaders were risking Russia's wrath by signing the U.S. deal, California Democrat Ellen Tauscher declared that the missile defense partnership was proceeding way too fast. Ms. Tauscher wrote on the left-wing Huffington Post last month that the U.S.-Polish pact would "build an ideologically-based system that is untested and certainly not ready, against a threat that has not yet emerged."

Ms. Tauscher chairs the House Strategic Forces Subcommittee and so can be a real obstacle to the Polish deal...

Most Dems are too weak on global security to vote for defending Poland...but enough may cross over to get it passed.

We can hope!

Yes, we can hope but with Tauscher and Murtha chairing the committees it will probably be an uphill climb.

The Kremlin has been doing so for much longer than that. It's a stubborn cultural thing about pride.

Putin is moving cause he knows Bush is weak and soon out and he figures that Obama will probably be elected. He is positioning early to fill in the gap left by the lack of US leadership.

This is a pretty good example of how “peaceful” things will be with a lefty Dem President.

You’re right, if BO is elected our foreign policy and security will be a disaster

But we won’t have a Dem president. It will be McCain and Palin, and they are Real Warriors. I believe the Senate, at least, will go Republican. With right thinking Dems in the House, it wou’t be hard for McCain to get Congress to agree to war with Russia if that’s what it will take. If Putin and the Russians don’t back down, we will need to take them down.

“Honor the threat”.

Should any want to deceive themselves about the validity of the above statement, consider what Mohammed did to any those foolish enough to not “honor the threat” when Mad Mo began to prepare for an attack.

“The fate for the deceived enemy target was an unexpected plunderous raid, enslavement of the women and death to the post-pubescent males.” Warner MacKenzie

Russia has always retained many aspects of its old medieval societal patterns. Tyranny is all Russia has ever known, with the few months of “democracy” under the Kerensky government.

Russia was, is, and will always be committed to Communism - or whatever name is attached to brutal tyrannical rule.

America must stop living in a fool’s paradise and prepare for the renewed attacks which are sure to come from Communism, Islam, socialism.

“America must stop living in a fool’s paradise and prepare for the renewed attacks which are sure to come from Communism, Islam, socialism.”

The barbarians have been not at, but within, the gates for a long time now. Socialism has long since been winning victories in this country. Just look at what congress does. Just look at what the courts do. Just look at our two parties—one is the “socialism fast”-wing, the other is the “socialism slow”-wing. Our choice is to choose between the two wings, or speeds, of socialism. Also, communists long ago easily infiltrated (Venona, Red Scare, etc.), and as for Islam, I’ll bet you there are a lot more sleeper cells already around, just gone to ground for now.

It’s definitely time for change in this country, but it should be a change from creeping socialism back to what this country used to promise to be. I have my doubts that it is possible at this stage.

Rome circa 200 A.D. = U.S.A. circa 2008...but hope still springs eternal!
