LEBANON, Virginia (AFP) — Democrat Barack Obama late Tuesday launched his most scathing attack yet on his Republican White House rivals' reformist credentials, likening their approach to putting "lipstick on a pig."
"We've been talking about change when we were up in the polls and when we were down in the polls," Obama told a rally here as surveys suggested John McCain and Sarah Palin have overhauled his lead for the November 4 election.
"The other side, suddenly, they're saying 'we're for change too.' Now think about it, these are the same folks that have been in charge for the last eight years," the Illinois senator said to a crowd of 2,400 people.
"You can put lipstick on a pig. It's still a pig. You can wrap up an old fish in a piece of paper and call it change. It's still going to stink after eight years. We've had enough," he exclaimed to a standing ovation.
In accepting the party's vice presidential nomination, Alaska Governor Palin joked at the Republican convention last week that the only difference between a hockey mom like herself and a pitbull was "lipstick."
True to the pitbull tag, Palin has been savaging Obama daily on the campaign trail as McCain presents their Republican ticket as true change that will shake up Washington, salvage the economy and protect the nation from foreign threats.
While Obama rallied voters in Lebanon, Virginia, the Republicans earlier were in Lebanon, Ohio, where Palin repeated her widely queried claim that she had said "thanks, but no thanks" to a notorious "bridge to nowhere" in Alaska.

I work in Detroit, which is virtually guaranteed to have 'civil unrest' in case of the messiah's loss. The office (a government building) is about 99% liberal. I am taking the day after the election off. I he wins I don't want to be there and if he loses ... I really don't want to be there.
Obama’s ego can’t handle being down in the polls.
When he feels he’s slipping in the polls, he become passive-agressive and vindictive.
Case in point, when did the middle-finger scratch when Hillary was pulling ahead.
Now, McCain/Palin are pulling ahead and he (on the sly) calls her a pig and McCain an old fish ... like we’re too dumb to possibly catch his drift, but this elevates obama’s ego so he has to say these things because he just can’t tolerate ego deflation.
