Amie Parnes reports from Lebanon, VA:
Obama poked fun of McCain and Palin's new "change" mantra.
"You can put lipstick on a pig," he said as the crowd cheered. "It's still a pig."
"You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still gonna stink."
"We've had enough of the same old thing."
The crowd apparently took the "lipstick" line as a reference to Palin, who described the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull in a single word: "lipstick."
Must be a new talking point because I heard Julian Epstein use the same phrase on CNN the other night.
Yup. The crowd reaction really seals his fate.
I just heard the audio on Hugh Hewitt.
That’s Low-bama
Thank you, Democrats. You are making this personal and you deserve what will be coming back at you.
I am enjoying all the comments on this thread because Obama & company deserve nothing less.
The Democrats irrational hatred of Sarah Palin and America is exposed and supported by the MSM. Thank you.
Your side says “let the games begin” and our response is “let’s roll”!!!
Wow--what terrible handlers! How clueless! Are they deranged?
careful...referring to Obama as “monkey” might be considered racist.......
Wow. That means much more than his words and speech delivery. Arrogant IMHO. Thanks, I’m gonna keep that.
I agree with what you are saying but isn’t that the OKC Federal building that your pic is of?
Give me a break. He's too old to be successful at it ~ but he's talking the talk.
Maybe the guys at FOX don't know, but they should!
'Hello, Barry....yes, Todd Palin calling....'
This is what McCain and Palin should do if the media asks them if they heard Obama say the LIPSTICK/PIG comment.
“Why no. I don’t know anyone who listens to Obama’s speeches.”
I think a whole lot of white women are going to take that one personally.
Worse...for him...he may have just declared “culture war” or “culture jihad” as the case may be.
They can’t win that one.
You’ve got a good comeback line; I hope it or something similar occurs to Palin. You are right - it’s better to have a snappy comeback than play the victim.
“I agree...he is rattled - but hes been rattled before in this campaign. Particularly during the height of the Rev. Wright stuff in the primaries against Hillary.
He managed to wright the ship. These guys are better than the bozos running the Kerry debacle in 04.
I think though - for the first time in this campaign - the election is not Obamas to lose. He has to play offense - which is risky - especially with a loose cannon like Biden.”
Nice observations. I, too, like the idea that Schmidt and the McCain Campaign seem to be making moves with a steady hand, deliberate, not hysterical. They seem to have the power to goad O and B into addled blather.
Nice analogy about not playing with the lead anymore. Ever see an undefeated team get rattled in the fourth quarter/second half? We may be seeing that now. Because I’m telling you, in this age, you can’t even make an accidental verbal blunder and get away with it. But the lipstick on a pig thing seems so deliberate, or willfully negligent, or mindlessly ignorant. It’s an automatic impulse to rage, just short of giving her the finger gesture.
It’s crazy, man.
You’re right. They’re gonna screw up.
Have you felt the intensity today? Worse pressure than even after the GOP convention. It’s in the air. And the boys in O&B country are not exactly showing grace under fire. Good thing the guy didn’t get to the VN war.
Who was it said: “Who’d you rather be in a foxhole with? McCain or O?” (The Peg whose name we can no longer say?)
There’s a question for an ad. As a vet, it gives me shudders to consider.
I cannot believe he just inferred Sarah was a pig.
That’s pretty low.
