(2008-09-07) Sen. Barack Obama told ABCs George Stephanopolous on Sunday that he considered joining the military when he left high school in 1979, but declined when he learned that the Vietnam War had ended some four years earlier, and that the first Persian Gulf War wouldnt start for another 11 years.
Sen. Obamas opponent, Sen. John McCain was shot down, captured, and repeatedly tortured in Vietnam during more than five years as a prisoner of war, much of that in solitary confinement.
The Democrat presidential nominee, in a surprising revelation not mentioned in either of his two memoirs, said, I actually always thought of the military as an ennobling and, you know, honorable option, but since we werent at war, I thought, why bother getting ennobled if you cant run through a hail of hot lead, or charge up a hill with a bayonet between your clenched teeth and plant Old Glory on the summit?
The Illinois Democrat said he realized even in high school that peace-time military service wouldnt make a big difference on the resume so he decided to become a community organizer in poor neighborhoods of Chicago, which at the time, was the closest he could get to Vietnam.
Sen. Obama told Mr. Stephanopolous that he had also considered being an Alaskan commercial fisherman and moose hunter, like Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, because I liked the idea of being a bold adventurer on the American frontier, killing my own food and surviving the harsh elements.
Instead, young Mr. Obama decided to pursue a law degree, because it was as close as I could get to having bloody entrails on my hands.
Let’s see.....he and Hitlery were going to enlist under the “buddy system”, right? Uh huh.
the closest he got was his sister being bitten.
Scrappleface missed the boat on this one.
Are you sure that doesn’t mean “hunt Army, join moose”?
Yeah, I’m not sure if it’s any stranger than O’s sudden revelations that he considered military service and that he would consider holding off on the tax cuts if it looked like they’d hurt the economy. Or his big flop flop on the surge, which is going to make for a great campaign commercial showing his opposing statements on it.
Just the headline alone has me ROTFL!!!
***Sen. Barack Obama told ABCs George Stephanopolous on Sunday that he considered joining the military when he left high school in 1979, but declined when he learned that the Vietnam War had ended some four years earlier, and that the first Persian Gulf War wouldnt start for another 11 years.***
Hillary already bin there - dun that - and dropped that lie like the Bosnia fire storm. Wish Obamarama would try your suggestion LOL! Did he even register for the draft - which is mandatory?
LOL. Humor and satire are the best weapons against those with a Messiah complex and sociopaths.
Cun aw buy uh hunt’n luceense here?
Lib heads would be exploding like the end of "Mars Attacks!"
So obamma knew when the Persian Gulf war would start? Was he against it then?
“become a community organizer in poor neighborhoods of Chicago, which at the time, was the closest he could get to Vietnam. “
Very good!
“decided to pursue a law degree, because it was as close as I could get to having bloody entrails on my hands.”
Also a classic!
Gotta be a joke.
But then again, it's far from the first time that a leftist resorted to revising history that doesn't conveniently fit the intended message.
Are they sure he said the "United States" military?? Because his pals Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, on behalf of the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong enemy, were raging war against the U.S. during that time. Recall they were "inside the belly of the beast".
From David Horowitz's FrontPageMag.com/DiscoverTheNetworks.org:
"FBI files from 1976, recently made public under the Freedom of Information Act, confirm the connections between Weatherman, Havana, and Moscow. Weatherman leaders like Mark Rudd traveled illegally to Havana in 1968 to engage in terrorist training. There, camps set up by Soviet KGB Colonel Vadim Kotchergine were educating Westerners both in Marxist philosophy and urban warfare."

"Their founding document [the Weather Underground's] called for the establishment of a "white fighting force" to be allied with the "Black Liberation Movement" and other "anti-colonial" movements[1] to achieve "the destruction of US imperialism and the achievement of a classless world: world communism."..."-Berger, Dan (2006). Weather Underground Organization linked to North Vietnamese and Cuban governments, KGB(my title)

In 1976, the FBI's Chicago Field Office prepared a summary which described the activities of the Weather Underground Organization, also known as Weathermen. This organization described itself as a revolutionary organization of communist men and women. The FBI's analysis of its motivations, beliefs, and international travels are outlined in this summary.
[some excerpts from the 1976 report linking the organization to foreign governments...]
From the moment in October, 1967, when Radio Hanoi announced the formation of the South Vietnamese Peoples Committee for Solidarity with American People (by the National Liberation Front (NLF), the political arm of the Viet Cong) with the objective of establishing relations with "progressive organizations and individuals in the United States," a political front was enjoined in behalf of the national interests of the Democratic Republic of North Vietnam (DRV) (and the NLF), the purpose of which was to intensify the anti-war sentiment in the United States.
From the initial meeting between the Vietnamese and leading anti-war activists held in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, in November, 1967, to the July, 1969, meeting with leading Weatherpeople held in Havana, Cuba, the influence of Vietnamese representatives on the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) leadership became sharply pronounced. At the same time, the example of the Cuban revolution became the guide for the emerging American student revolutionary. With an increasing number of trips to Havana where the youthful revolutionary could learn at first hand how to create revolution, the influence of Cuba on the developing WUO [Weather Underground Organization] was enormous.
The WUO obtained their revolutionary methodology from the Cubans and Vietnamese and, importantly, put into practice what they had learned from them. The Weathermen, of course, did not just happen to come about during the June, 1969, SDS National Convention. They fully admit their radical heritage began during experiences gained in SDS and as shown herein their international contacts with representatives of the DRV and NLF which began in 1967 increased their anti-imperialist consciousness so that by 1969 they had solidified their revolutionary commitment to include the maximum optimum of armed struggle. So, when Huynh Van Ba, representative of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of Vietnam (PRG), instructed the WUO to "look for the person who fights hardest against the cops...Don't look for the one who says the best thing. Look for the one who fights," the campus base was forgotten and the WUO began to recruit the greasers and assorted oddments who had displayed their hatred of authority in direct combat with police.

From HumanEvents.com, April 29, 2008:
"By all accounts, he [Obama friend and associate, Bill Ayers] was a ferocious, violent, revolutionary Marxist in his halcyon days as a Weatherman leader. He and his Weatherman bombers were enamored of Ho Chi Minh, Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, Mao Tse-tung -- indeed, all the murderous heroes on the Left. Referring to the Weatherman members in August 1969, he said (according to the FBI): 'Were revolutionary Communists.'
He got off on the groups multiple explosions, too, and discusses them rather lovingly in his memoir.
Ideal Bombing Weather:
'Everything was absolutely ideal on the day I bombed the Pentagon,' he writes (although he concedes it was really a group effort). 'The sky was blue. The birds were singing. And the bastards were finally going to get what was coming to them.' (p. 256 in the 2003 edition.)

The Illinois Democrat said he realized even in high school that peace-time military service wouldnt make a big difference on the resume
This is the big gaff. Millions of people have joined the military over the years because they want to serve their country.
Obama makes it plain here his motivation in joining the military wouldn't have been to serve his country, but to pad his resume.
Puts a whole different meaning of the word "enoble" he used.
