World wants Obama as president: poll

US Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama may be struggling to nudge ahead of his Republican rival in polls at home, but people across the world want him in the White House, a BBC poll said.

All 22 countries covered in the poll would prefer to see Senator Obama elected US president ahead of Republican John McCain.

In 17 of the 22 nations, people expect relations between the US and the rest of the world to improve if Senator Obama wins.

More than 22,000 people were questioned by pollster GlobeScan in countries ranging from Australia to India and across Africa, Europe and South America.

The margin in favour of Senator Obama ranged from 9 per cent in India to 82 per cent in Kenya, while an average of 49 per cent across the 22 countries preferred Senator Obama compared with 12 per cent preferring Senator McCain. Some four in 10 did not take a view.

"Large numbers of people around the world clearly like what Barack Obama represents," GlobeScan chairman Doug Miller said.

This stuff is weird. I get the same reactions from liberals at my own university who keep worrying about “restoring our image in the world” (why we should vote for Obama). And yet, someone whom I know very well who runs meetings in Latin America for an important international organization laughs to me and says they have people from many of these countries at these meetings, and they say ( better than 90%) “How can you Americans vote for this idiot Obama?).

Got me.

So laughably socialist of them! They want a vote in our election - careful, Obama just might let them!

Newsflash! We’ve been making our own decisions just fine since 1776

You know, at any given time, there are several nations around the globe I’d rather (a) have other people governing, or better yet (b) have living under an entirely different system of government. But I’m not a citizen in any of them, so I don’t get a vote from here. (And in some of said governments, I wouldn’t have one there either, even if I were a citizen. One reason I’m kind of glad God set me down here.)

Most of the world’s population aren’t even permitted to vote for the leaders of their own countries. Their thoughts on the US election are of no importance.

Even if you leave aside the argument, ‘who gives a flying f*** what the world wants’, it’s still most likely a lie. It’s nothing more than manufactured polls designed to enhance Obama’s appeal and sway public opinion. In 2004 we saw similar “polls” where Europe(and the rest of the world) were unanimously in favor of Kerry, and these countries elected center right/pro Bush leaders (Harper, Merkel, Howard, Besculoni, Sarkozy, Koizumi....).

These polls are pure unadulterated BS.
