Yup. But it is awesome to consider that Richard Cohen does not yet understand what the term “swiftboating” means, and his newspaper nevertheless allows him to write an entire column on it. Was there no one in the entire newsrooms who said, “Uh, Richard, you’re missing the point here.” Meanwhile, poor Richard strays from the party line and hints that his idol may, after all have, ummmm, feet of clay. And they are all scratching their heads and wondering why McCain has moved ahead in the polls.
So, Cohen, you have basically just revealed that you are pulling for Obama yourself. Since it is less that 60 days before the election, you are using Wash Post corporate resources to promote a candidate. I request you cease and desist immediately.
“Kerry is not a certified hero.”
John Kerry is a self-manufactured hero, much as Barry Soetoro is a self-manufactured ‘organizer.’ Kerry’s Purple Heart was for a nick that others would have ignored (or been too embarassed to acknowledge), and his “exploits” include a false claim of moving CIA agents into Cambodia in December 1968 (”seared, SEARED in my memory”). His principle achievements were to testify against his fellow servicemen (”reminiscent of Ghengis Khan”) before Congress and to negotiate with the enemies of his country in Paris, even while he still held an officer’s commission in the US Navy Reserve.
Somebody once said that life is rigged in favor of the rich, the beautiful and the shameless. Thanks to his wives’ trust funds, John Kerry is two out of three.
It must be difficult for Obama to even walk with Richard Cohen swinging from his nuts like that.
I take offense at such a suggestion!
Obama’s dispassionate, robotic delivery in interviews reminds me a great deal of Dukakis.
I can only speak for myself, but if someone said my Christian faith was just put on for show I would have an emotional response - at least as emotional as Obama had when his family was attacked.
“What, above all, does he care about? ...nothing much.”
When all you have ever done is pander to everyone, making promises you can’t keep just to get people to vote for you, then, in the end, there really isn’t much you care about or represent except ego and ambition... thus we have BARACK OBAMA!
In 2000 the Rats said you had to have Veep experience to become President.
In 2004 you had to have been a decorated war hero.
Now, 2008 you must be a professional campaigner.
According to the trend, in 2012 you'll need dog catcher experience.
There, fixed it!
Dick is a lefty opinion columnist, so facts serve no useful purpose, anyway.
As for the newsroom...where do you thimk he first heard the line about "Swiftboating?"
There's only one way leftys want to support the troops...Kerry is a faux hero who, like most everything the left touches, can't withstand any level of scrutiny.
I also resent the arrogant left, and I like others that served our country honorably during the VN era have no illusions about John F., what he was in it for and what he tried to make out of his service when he returned. That he served is honorable, what he did with his service is not. Not a big McCain fan, but I can compare and contrast.
Obama reminds me of Pat Paulsen running for President.
Boo hoo..Obamachev is being swift boated...
That's what make its so difficult with Obama - nobody can identify a "strength".
Talking? Being half black? Not fat? Pretty weak tea.
Wait.
Does he mean to say that John Kerry served in Viet Nam?
Kerry lost the election when he testified to congress in 1971 about how evil our troops were. He alleged that they "raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam". Then he tossed his metals.
No surprise that when some veterans came forward and said Kerry was no patriot and no hero, they were believed! If we didnt have the 1971 testimony, in his own words and in his own voice, he would have been able to portray himself as a hero and the swiftboat vets wouldnt have gotten any traction in my opinion. But since we had it...
An impressive lies-per-sentence ratio, even for Richard Cohen.
Everything you said, but you would think that they would have some kind of herd instinct to avoid looking so ill-informed/obtuse in public and in print. Then there is the theory that Richard Cohen and Frank Rich are the same person.
That is the crux of the whole thing. Like Bill Clinton, Obama is the ultimate opportunist as indicated by his flip-flopping on previous unflippable lib issues: tax cuts, troop withdrawal, and drilling.
